Default Decisions....Decisions...

I was just offered a 402 engine from SLP from a friend who bought it but can't use it. Only problem I see as of now is that it was ordered high compression. Now, if I want to TT this car with this engine, what kind of heads do I need to put back on here (within reason) and what kind of numbers can I expect out of that setup?

What compression is the motor at exactly? Heads alone may not drop you enough, though without knowing numbers no one can say.

Take the motor and change the pistons to dished and your fine.

Like was mentioned, you probably want to swap for lower comp. pistons.

I have a friend that just got a stroked LS2 402 and he put down 520 rwhp NA. He also has a 150 shot to go on top of that.....

Depends on your goals, but 520 rwhp for a street car is perfect and then you can add some spray for "insurance".

Thanks for the input guys. My friend initially bought a head and cam setup from SLP to go on his "stock f-body LS1". He swapped the head/cam package over to the new block and then took it to MORE Performance in North Carolina to have it installed and tuned. They told him that particular package was probably hurting the motor more than it was helping but the car ran great for the 2 weeks it was in the car. I believe the cr is 11.5:1. I remember it was high, somewhere around that. I believe SLP offered a high and low compression version. I want to put the twin turbo setup on this motor and drop it in my '00 convertible. Just curious what some of you thought about the motor and what I may need to change while it's out of the car. Again, I'm guessing, but I think he bought "stage 2" head/cam package from SLP which has been transferred over to the 402 from the stock LS1.

Before you change the pistons, you might want to check out this thread..............

High CR, Low Boost Post.........................

Granted, they're not talking about 11.5:1 CR, but some #317 heads (or depending on your budget, AFR's or ETP's with the big chambers) will lower the CR almost a point, and going a little thicker on the head gasket should bring it down to around 10.25-10.5:1 (stock Z06 CR).

You won't be able to run as much boost, but with some alky, a good tune and the bigger cubes, it'll still FLY! Off boost, it'll probably run better, because of the higher CR, and you'll have one SICK street car!

Good Luck to you!

Do you have to twin turbo it? Like Marko said, a 402 with the proper setup could put out over 500rwhp all motor. That would be a beast on the street. Then add some nitrous. A 200 shot direct port should get the job done. Not sure what would be able to touch you then!

After you blow it up you can always lower the CR like the rest of us.

Ok, if the engine already has stage 2 heads and cam from SLP on it already at 11.5:1 cr then what do I need to do to put down at least 500rwhp? I have access to a nitrous kit so I may go that route first, but I'm DEFINATELY gonna twin turbo this thing before I'm done. Guess I probably should get used to some real power first? I'm stock with a MAF and catback upgrade now.

Depending on the work that's done to the heads, and the size of the cam in it, to get 500 rwhp, just get a good tune and put gas in it.

A 200 shot on there would make that one CRAZY,FUN ride!
