Default Added manual boost controller to STS today

I'm starting to get things sorted out on my STS system. I called STS today and talked to Dave South about installing a boost controller. The instructions that came with the controller was a little vague on the wording. Dave talked to me for a few minutes and it all became clear. I took a quick trip to Orchard supply hardware and purchased some T-fittings and installed the thing.

Anyone running the STS TT kit MUST install a boost controller. When I was running the stock 5 PSI setting for boost, the car ran ok. Nothing to write home about. Well, I say this only because my car was making 410 rwhp before the TT install.

After turning the boost up to aroung 6.5 psi, the car ran so much better that it is incredible that this could be the same turbo kit? I ran the car at 10 psi for a couple of pulls and when the car hit 4,500 rpm, it went sideways on the freeway at 85 mph. I can't imagine what hp numbers the car was making. I ran 10 psi accidentally and turned it back down to 6.5 psi. If anybody is running this kit, you MUST try 6.5 psi, it's a whole different car.

Ya, this kit is awesome...!!! Right now I'm running 5.5 pounds and it brakes the tires loose at 75 mph in 2nd gear...sick...sick...sick!!!

Haven't had it dynoed yet, however will be adding up to 8 pounds of boost in the spring time and taking it to the track to get some runs in.

However, it's stickly going to be a "show and go" car. I'm really not that serious (competitive) about running the quarter mile. To me it's all about having some fun whenever possible.

Enjoy your new STS kit and keep the shiny side up!

Watch out man - in the cool air, you're likely close to 600 rwhp on 10 psi! The pistons may not like that for long without a bang on tune!

Carl,

Good to hear that you got the boost controller working. Should we make another video like the last one? You know, the one where I said "oh XXXX don't get me killed!" Man that curve by your house is scary. Be careful driving with the new power. I don't want to have to put that catheter in your brain. You know what I am talking about. Let's meet up soon!

I'm not planning to ever run 10 psi until I forge the motor. 6.5 feels really great right now .

Hi Lewis,

You really need to get your car running at 6.5 psi, it runs alot better. I have an extra boost controller and airbridge here at my house. The boost controller is a brand new Turbonetics if you need one. We could install it in about 1 hour.

Let's hook up soon.

I have to stop reading these threads. I'm happy with 6 lbs on my STS kit, but after reading about your 10lbs experience, I'm beginning to think about forged motor and alky kit. OK, send the kids to college or be able to go sideways at 85MPH at 4500RPMs. Tough choice...I have to stop reading these threads.

At least you could safely run it at 7 lbs ... do this and report back on performance

I thought the manual controller was only able to dial in another 2 lbs boost at max. How did you get it to 10 lbs ... w/o changing spring ?

The manual boost controller I purchased with my kit is rated at 0-5psi. So that should get you to 10psi.

I still have not installed mine. I want to put on a second wastegate first. But now you guys are making me rush!!!

TA Tommy says it well.

The boost controller only adds to what you already have.If you have 5 psi springs in your wastegate and If you have a 0-5 psi controller, use your controller to add anything form 0-5 psi on thop of your 5 psi.
Example is you have 5psi: dial in 3 psi on your controller and then you get 8psi. It's infinitely adjustable on the manual controller so you can adjust to 6.5 psi if you like by adding 1.5 psi to your existing 5psi.

with the alky system, but as of right now, I don't want to tinker anymore for awhile and I'll just keep it at 6.5 or 7 psi. I have other projects that I need to take care of.
