Hey Kevin, from what I learned from Mike at MCM when he made my hood (CF). Doing a hood that has a smooth paintable surface and CF that actually shows the fiber is a two step process. (rebagging) It is a little more expensive but can be done. I did the MilYel hood on my car with the fiber showing underneath and on the scoop of the Maggie hood with clear and the rest in paint. Looks great!
The differences between the two are subtle. The bottom one has the NACA duct left raw cf, and the top one has it painted. That's the only difference.
Not to take this off topic, but can you chop this pic for me. I'm trying to envision this GTS with the HRE 547s with silver centers. Would you mind taking a shot at it?
Kevin,
You know I had an issue with that hood. The detail on the raw CF hood was flawed......pure and simple. The fact that this company would let something like that go out of their shop does not make me feel good at all. IF you do the hood....do it right the design is really KILLER for sure
No I didn't know that you had an issue with it. Can you expand on the details so that I can have the appropriate discussions over any quality control issues. So far you are the only one out of everybody else, so I want to hear your comments...seriously.

Good luck to you guys, I love my hood!!!!!!
Jim told me they did all the wind tunnel testing on the current design...but maybe. One thing I know as a liscensed Project Manager (www.pmi.org) from monitoring cost and change control is:
that when you start off with a set cost and then incur design changes, support cost for development has to be incorporated into the rework, as well as the addition of materials and labor to make the physical change. This tends to drive the price up from the original development.
I like some high rises, but also have driven a few of them, and don't like the restriction of it and not being able to see out over the hood, I hit parking curves as is, not too mention seeing the road..and my head is pretty close to the roof.

I think I remember a few of the flaws that occured. Gary can chime in a bit later.
I think on one hood the safety break away rods I think actually came out of the hood, or werent installed in the mold correctly.
On another hood, the top Right Corner if I remember correctly had a huge gap or break in the CF and part of the support of the hood was coming thru.
My hood, had a tiny spot on the upper right corner where the CF halves were joined together. The body shop was able to sand and fill mine with no worries. They said oveall they build quality was very nice. They had seen some $500 CF hoods come thru their shop that they said they wouldnt pay $1.00 for. But they felt overall the Stinger hood was a very nice piece.

Earl,
Here's a quicky of it. I couldn't get the color of the wheels that good. They actually look grey. I'll give it a better shot tomorrow, because my eyes are shot for tonight.

Well if they make it with a rise in the middle sell me yours because that is the exact reason why I'm getting one because there is no rise. I hate them with a passion (at least on a vette).
Other than than I think the last chopped red one is an awesome idea. I would certainly be down for that.
I believe Kevin mentioned something about side louves before. Very good idea. Louvers reduce heat and reduce lift. Of course, "look," is always subjective. I will tell you, that the louvers do work.

Brent
Your right on the money Brent, looking at a couple of options and some locations, patterns too. LuvmyC5 has emailed me some great stuff so far and I sent him some additional details last night. He's pretty darn good with the Photochop.

Thats great to hear coming from you and the bodyshop. I am sure they see parts everyday and are very qualified to give an opinion.
Thanks

Man, I thought this hood was dead and buried!!! I haven't been on this site in months and see this!!!
Gary is right though. Not to take away from your project as I labored for 2-3 years to get that hood made and wound up spending alot more than what it cost to buy just to get it prepped to be painted right. Kevin, IM me your phone number and I'd be happy to go over any flaws that could be possibly corrected.
The hood does look awesome though!!! But seems a little unstable at speeds over 160.

Holy **** it's Blacksun! Hey just PM'd you my Cell #.
Good to see you around...one of the only guys who had the ***** to step up and tell his side of the story against the trolls. Gotta respect that.
Blacksun lets see some more (bigger) pics of your hood and car please.
Shinobi if you have more photochops postem up so we can all see.
Luvmyc5 is helping out in this area, I think he will post up one of the concepts that I was thinking about...as an option to what is being offerred. Once I have prices I have to meet and discuss the logistics of the option. I know that it will at least be incorporated into my hood.
