I have seen a buck 65 in my bone stock '97. Not planning on doing it again anytime soon. I saved this chart a while back. This is for a 6 speed with a 3.42 rear.
So far, I've been taking it relatively easy on the car since I'm still breaking it in. But I have hit as high as 180 on one occasion. I'm wondering what my top speed in 5th would be if I took it to the 7000 RPM redline. Would that be enough RPM to get to 200? With my horsepower, I would think it should be able to do it fairly easy. Opinions?

Nick told me about your little high speed pursuit with each other.
I would think (not from experience ) that 200 is no problem with your set up Nat.
I have been told by guys that do the standing mile races etc, that if you try and max speed a high hp car in sixth gear (250+) that the gears, being so small at that ratio, will actually melt. Although that I really have not tried.
I have tapped 200+ mph in my modified Z06 Vette.
140-150, hundreds of times.
Ground effects, C5R type race suspension and a race brake setup do help a lot. I would NOT do this in an unmodified C5. Lift gets ugly.

We have a guy who runs in the open road races and mile races. He hasn't hit 200 yet (within the mile limit). The car is pushing over 700 rwhp. They changed the gears, his 4th, 5th and 6th are all much closer together. Prior to the custom gearing, 5th was always the top speed gear, the car can't push 6th and actually loses MPH. He added front wings, a vented hood and a decent sized rear spoiler because of the amount of lift he was getting on the front end at speeds over 165 mph. Also, the car is slammed to the ground.
161 mph in a bone stock 94 LT-1 M6 and it was still pulling.....got scared on the highway I was on (too many turns)
165 mph in the C5 M6 vert....ran out of room. Time seems to stand still, but the scenery flies by.....
JB, you run out of room or what? You got enough power to go over 200 mph, no?
She pulls to 180 pretty quick, but that last 20 will take a reasonable amount of safe road. I really do want to get that 200 MPH pull, and on video to boot!!
I'm sure, given a nice clean place to do it, 200 would not be a problem at my power level. I would certainly have someone go over all the critical points of stress, and make sure everything is nice and tight before I made the pull!!
I run a Unitrax triple cryoed treated 373 dif with hardended shaft and modified clutch pacs for a "Posi traction effect".
Here's a quick pull to about 170 MPH. You can see where the tach is in fifth gear. I find that I can usually go to about 175 in fifth, then go to sixth. Click Below for vid Hard pull

I have around 630 RWHP, and once I put it in sixth, she still pulls nicely. It would seem if this guy has over 700, and close gears, he should be able to pull in sixth.
I do run a Vararam, that helps feed the blower at speeds over 90, so maybe that helps...

I read in one of the Rags that the new Z is 'speed limited' by computer to just under 200. 197-198 is suppost to be tops GM has programmed into it.
However, now the computer code has been "picked" ... perhaps 205 or so may be there????
Great Vid JBS Love that paintjob on your car ... and the wheels.
Perhaps on the next pull for top speed ... you could get a split screen view. Road on top ... with tach/speed down in bottom corner. Would need two cameras to obtain.

Do your 200+ trials at the Salt Bed flats in Utah/Nev .... although elevation there would hurt engine performance slightly.
