Default HELP installing manual boost controller.

I've been trying to dial this thing in for hours now!

I installed a Turbosmart (gated) manual boost controller this morning.

A. I connected the boost controller output port to a Y fitting that feed the vent port on both wastegateg

B. I connected the boost controller's input port to T fitting connected to the main boost reference line that also god to both wastegates' "bottom" port.

My problem is this. It doesn't really seem to matter where I set the boost controller to, it does the same thing...

1. With the boost controller disconnected (reference side plugged, and wastegate vents open) it works fine. Stops a 5psi in any gear (stock spring rate in my wastegates)

2. With the boost controller connected ONLY to the wastegate vents, with boost controller fully closed (refernce side still plugged, NOT connected to boost controller). I get a consistent 6 psi?!?!

So at this point I figure the vented side must need some "venting" right

3: So I leave the #2 setup (above) in place, but OPEN the boost controller fully. Back tp 5psi again! Viola... but I'm not sure what this means!

4: I now connect everything back up, close the boost controller all the way, and I make 7.5+ psi in the higher gears, (it kept climbing, so I backed off the throttle)

WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG?!? It was my understanding that if you connect a manual boost controller up to your system, and keep it fully closed, it should be the same as no controller. But even this isn't true.. I get about 1 more psi out of it!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Tommy

Just had a thought, (after eating a slice of pizza)

If the boost controller NOT supposed to hook up to the vent side of the wastegate? Instead just T in with the original setup, and that is it? In order words, the controller just bleeds a little air into the atmosphere and that's it?

Thanks again.

FIXED!

I removed the "quality" boost controller, and installed the one that came with my STS kit. It works fine now!

My theory is, I purchased a gated boost controller which may make sense for an internal wastegate, or a wastegate without a vent port.

I connected mine up the way I explained at first with the output of the controller going to the vent side of the wastegates, and the input of controller is fed from any boost reference source.

What a waste of time, but I did get to beat the living hell out of my car for hours on end!

Thanks!

Tommy

PS 7lbs feels amazing!

the turbosmart gated controller splices into the signal line going to the side port on the wastegates. the vent ports should be left unobstructed. the gated controller delays the signal to the gates causing them to open later, thus raising your boost level. the problem is that when hooked up properly, the checkball tee that is supplied with the controller causes a boost spike with twins(this controller was designed for singles). my car was seeing 19+ psi by the time I could get off the throttle. I cut the ristriction tee off and spliced in a normal 5/16" tee. everything has worked fine for me since then.

Thanks for the explination. I thought I was losing it... Maybe it has something to do with laying on my back with hot turbos an inch from my nose making adjustments on public roadways for hours!

Well, it is all dialed in now with the "simple" controller. The boost builds fast, but it is only 7psi. Maybe at higher boost levels I might need a different setup.

All that's left now if to slightly lean out the mixture since I ran it rich while chaning the boost level today.
