Default Question about Cold Boost

My mechanic/performance guy is suggesting that I look into having one of these installed http://www.snowperformance.net/prodd...p?prod=auto023 on my NA 'vette. Is it worth it or would this just compliment a supercharged vehicle? He (my mechanic) feels that by adding this and dyno-tuning my car could get me an additional 20-30 RWHP. I think the reason he feels this way is that he has another customer with a 99 vette with almost the same setup as mine, except his has a supercharger. When they added the Cold Booster and dyoned his car, he claims it gained him another 60 RWHP.

I just want to spend my money wisely and not be disappointed if I go ahead and have this installed.

Thanks for your input

Huck

First off - it will do almost nothing for you NA. Zilch. Zero.

Second, if you have to get get an alky kit - get it directly from http://www.alkycontrol.com/ which is specifically designed for the C5.

Not necessarily zero. If you spray methanol or ethanol, these are both more potent fuels then gasoline. If you tune your car to pull gasoline and compensate by spraying alky, you will make more power even if you are naturally aspirated.

Also, when you spray these fuels, they cool the air, making it denser. This allows some extra air mass to enter the engine even without forced induction.

Obviously you need to retune the car to properly benefit - simply spraying alky on top of an already optimized gasoline tune will probably hurt performance.

So, it's not out of the question to possibly gain the 20-30 RWHP he spoke of if I get it tuned after installation? He did tell me that it would need tuned to see any real benefits.

Again, I'm just gauging everyone's input before I make any kind of move. I'm still toying with the thought of having a supercharger installed too...

It depends how much methanol you spray. Lets put it this way. If you could get your car to run on 100% meth (doing so is a whole other topic), you'd gain about 20-30% power thanks to its higher energy content compared to gasoline. Similarly with Ethanol - this is one of the reasons why e85 gas makes more power then regular gasoline

20 HP might be attainable if you get about 1/3 of your total fueling from methanol. You won't see much evidence here because most people simply don't do what you are asking about - they slap on a FI setup first and then add alky afterwards.
