You know I put 3500 miles on my A&A P1 kit and never had a single belt issue. Your story and similar ones, coupled with the kind of power I wanted from the car were the a few of the reasons why I went to a TT setup. I just did not have confidence for making major power and still being able to hop in the car and drive 200-300 miles without worry.

I know that was not what your thread was about, but your concerns are why I and many of the other guys switched over.

That being said, I know there are several guys that are confident in your installers abilities but man I would be leary of someone telling me that they knew the work they just did was going to fail.. bring it back in 500 miles cause the belt will break, I will put a new one on it would not cut it. I don't see why they cannot get the belt aligned so it is not chewing them up over and over.

Hope you get it squared up...

Something is wrong if they said it would only last 500 miles...

I have been running my A&A Vortech for about 3000 miles with no problems.

There is some variability in belt alignment… WHY??? I don’t know. I have some 3D drawings of LS1/6 and 4.028” from head to edge of 6-rib is what it is according to drawings. My C5 was within ~0.025 of that dimension. If you need better reference let me know.

YEAH, that is a bummer and i am surprised to hear about this, as DAN at FLP (an awesome f/i LSX tuner) installed and tuned my ECS D1SC Kit last August, and it came with a new 6 rib NAPA belt, and he never told me that mine would break, etc., and i have 3600 miles on mine without a single issue!!

DAN at FLP must have seen something with the belt you were using to be able to forecast that you were going to have a problem. Best of luck on a quick fix and I am sure DAN will get you squared away. DId you use the belt that came with the ECS kit? Where did you get the belt from as this is very strange!

I know that my ATI 8 rib system isn't exactly the same as the Vortech or Paxton kits but...I have ~20K miles boosted at 12-16psi on my original belt with absolutelt no issues. There should be no worries if installed and aligned properly.

I'm sure Dan has a good explanation.

When he told me about the 500 miles, he said the belt would likely stretch, and I would need a new one.

I’m not sure if he said it would snap. And he was not implying that I would need to replace the belt every 500 miles. Just that he knew to suspect trouble, and that he would be able to fix it.

If there's an alignemnt problem, I'm sure it will get figured out in the next few weeks. I inspected the back of the belt, and it showed some abraision, so something may not be right.

Yep I am sure that Dan will fix you up. Sound like you went with your old belt. Good luck to ya. And I know how it feels to have a belt break.....

I don't.

If that was the case, why wouldn't the new belt stretch too?
The tensioner is spring loaded and should take care of any stretching.

There shouldn't be any abrasion on the back of the belt. Something isn't aligned right.

Sorry to hear about your belt trouble, something has to be off, belt life should be drasticly longer than 500 miles so I would like to know why he thought that. As a matter of fact, we have never replaced a six rib belt installed on a Paxton car yet that I know of and alot of our customers race regularly. The only car that has had belts replaced is Asmokegars car and thats running low nine second passes and is raced very regularly. Even with that it was because we were getting greedy trying to use our 8" balancer and a 2.75" pully and it was just toooo much. Now that we went back to the stock sized balancer it has been raced three at three events on the same belt and I have no intension of changing it before the next one.
Let me know if there is anything we can do to help get your car to that point of reliability since it is definatly obtainable. I'm sure Dan at FLP can figure out whats off and get you going again soon.

Called Dan this morning.

He said the problem is the belt stretches, and after stretching is too long. The manual tensioner is maxed out, and you cant keep the belt tight. So after a short time it gets sloppy and breaks.
He recomended the next size smaller belt by 1/2". Didnt have the model no. though.

Any thoughts on this before I returen the belt I bought?

My belt is fine. Tight as all hell, but fine. 300 miles with some hard passes so far.

Welcome to the club. Belt snapping and shredding is something we have been dealing with for a while on this forum. Had to get mine towed off of I-294 last fall, and again off of I-90 this spring because of it. I'm sick of it. Prepare yourself and carry a spare belt, small jack, and wrench in your trunk if you don't want to be leery about driving long distances, etc.

Dan @ FLP does good work. I'm sure he will take care of you. Make sure the alignment is perfect when you get it back and you should have NO belt debris on your hoodliner.

If you wanna give it a try yourself, I have a Gates serpentine belt laser alignment tool you can borrow.

Ballsy move inching it back home without the water pump!

I only had to go a few miles, so I figured I'd be ok.
Just watch the temp gauge.

Now I got a new issue!!

I'll post it on a new thread.

I dont understand why some have blower belt issues and others dont.
ive owned 4 blowers now and broke one belt b/c I didnt put it on all 6 ribs. I boost my car all the time pretty much everyday. All kits have had stock tensioners.
