I noticed that a lot of the perfromance shops use the non-synthetic
GM oil for the C5 rears but the owners manual specifies the GM full
synthetic oil. If the oil gets changed every year and I frequent the
drags what oil would you use in the rear ? If I was primarily concerned
about drag race performance would I still use the friction modifier ?
Use Redline or Royal Purple, they don't need the friction modifier becuase it's built into them. I am running Royal Purple in everything up and down the drive line.
yeah, you can use regular gear oil in the differntial, it won't hurt anything. Just make sure you add the GM rearend additive to it. They also sell the same additive at Autozone.
I have also heard if you run a full synthetic rearend fluid, you don't neet the additive, but i would use it just in case.
