Default ATI Radiator Mod

Has anyone built their own radiator mod that allows tilting of the radiator in so you can use the stock fans over the radiator air filter and get rid of the single fan and the air blocking K&N filter? Procharger has a mod (PN 2GKSU-001) but it is right pricey at $700.00.

Just finished the install last week and car is really overheating.......ANy help would be appreciated.

Can you give more information?
Is this the style of Procharger that has the K&N filter behind the radiator where the fans go?
You want to lay the radiator down so the intake can go over the top, putting the filter in front of the radiator?
Where are your intercoolers?

I did a custom install of my P1sc. I moved the radiator forward enough to allow the stock fans to be used. But with my big FMIC blocking the whole radiator I was still running hot.

Dont forget that stock the fans arent programmed to come on until the car is 235+. Unless of course you have the AC on and even then they will turn off once you get over 25mph.

Even with my front liscence plate cover and fog lights cut out the car would get gradually hotter when I was moving. Without the Fan(s) ON to pull the air through the radiator it ran hot (220-230)

When I got the car tuned I had him change my fan temps and speeds so that they are on pretty much constantly. Now the car stays right at 194-198 stoppped or moving day or night. Basically its hovering right over the stock Thermostat opening point. With a 160 Stat I"m sure they would stay lower but if its not broke, I"m not going to fix it

Not sure about your car year specifically but the stock stat in my 2002 Z is a 212F.

All -drove the car for the first time yesterday in 105 degree heat...in 10 miles of 35-45 MPH traffic water temp quickly went to 242 degrees before I got it parked it in the driveway. Before, with the dual fans programmed (during LS1 edit) it never got above 205. It could idle in this weather all day and not get hot - as MawneeC5 stated.

More on the car. 2002 M6. Stock. Using the ATI P 1SC with the dual intercoolers (brake duct mount). This kit was a brand new 2002 kit that was never used...so it has the air filter in the front of the radiator next to the single fan. I think the dual fans are the key..they pull way more air than this single (am I wrong?).

I'd be a litlle pi$$ed if I was you.
Looks like your installer recommended and sold you an older kit which has given people numerous problems.
There's upgraded stuff to fix it, but you might be keeping nothing but the head unit.
Might be time to get a bunch of steroid abusing buddies from the gym and go have a talk with him.

Ok - looks like I have issues to resolve. How do you lay the radiator back far enough to get the stock fans back in. Is there a bracket to buy? Can I make a bracket? Anyone have any pictures or describe what to do?

Call ECS or A&A.. I am sure A&A sells the brackets to mod the radiator and the intake. I would assume ECS will do the same.

Getting the air intake out from behind the radiator will do wonders for that kit.

I would be upset with the installer as well. Selling a kit as new is one thing.. but a kit made in 2002? Even if it is still technically new.

Just to clarify..the kit came from another individual who bought it and had it sitting in his garage for a couple of years...the installer said heat wouldn't be an issue.... I'll speak with Andy or someone from A&A to see about the relocation brackets.

I believe A&A has designed a coupler that connects with the intake of the SC and you do not have to lay down the radiator.

Thanks for the links - Have spoken to Andy and he is in production stage now ...will be two weeks or so before he gets something ready to sell that will work with the dual intercoolers.

Have you removed the Radiator Shroud? If you did, put it back in. i think thats the only reason people have problems with the twin intercoolers. Moving the radiator like Andy's and ECS's kit only really reduces the amount of flow to the radiator.

I'm using the stock radiator placement with single dual speed Spal fan and my temps are staying lower then stock (knock on wood). I have the twin intercoolers and 160* stat. I haven't seen it go over 196* and that was in stop and go traffic in 101* weather on the highway to the beach

Sure, i did. I'm running the stock P1 kit right now.

However, i cut off the radiator support and moved it forward about 5 inches. Then, i made my own radiator shroud.

I had quite a bit of help doing this A HUGE thanks to EG, Bgriz, and Stu!

This shows how far it was moved forward

Here's a picture of the shroud.

And this shows the intake i came up with.
