Why Drag Race?
Seems to me the Corvette is a sports car and most that opt for the high performance of heads and cam or superchargers and turbos are concerned about straight line performance. Just my opininion, but I believe the car was designed to handle and take curves like it was glued to the road
Dont see many Ferrari, or Lamborgini in a drag race
Thanks,

So, stick to road racing.
Have you ever been told "That won't work" or "That can't do that" ect.?
What's it make you do? Try harder just to prove everybody wrong.
Not only does a corvette dominate the road races and auto X's, it's proven to be quite the force to be reckoned with at the drag strip. Most of the time, when street racing is concerned it's in a straight line....the Drag strip is just a safer place to do this.

Because it's good to be well versed in ALL forms of motorsports. From highways and bi-ways, to roadcourses, to drag strips, to trips to the local spot, to dinner with a hot young vixen. It's all good. To me, the 1/4 mile is just too short but, I do it anyways. It's a legal place to go as fast as you can soo, why not.

To each his own and AMERICANS are dying as we speak to contine the FREEDOM that we all enjoy and may even take for granted. One should enjoy his Z06 the way he enjoys it most, either stock, BLOWN, drag racing, road racing, driving to church on Sunday mornings or puting one coat of wax on it after another or only driving 500 miles a year (if that's your thing)!
HERE IS ANOTHER EXCELLENT PERSPECTIVE from a recent thread where ROB Z (a heck of a drag racer of the C5 Z06) wrote as follows and this sums things up in an interesting way regarding why some people drag race their C5s:
Another perspective on why people drag race a Z or like to watch one.
Why NOT be a 2 sport athlete?
It seems that it's part of human nature to make something perform well in an arena it was not inteded to, or to excel in something it was not made for. That I believe is the attraction.
Even some great inventions/products were and are used for things that they were not initially intended for.
There are hundreds of historical examples.
There seems to be an interest for the athlete as well as the audience. "How would this great athlete fare in other sports?"
Michael Jorden playing baseball.
Track athletes playing in the NFL.
LG running his RR car on the drag strip.
Rocky wrestling Hulk Hogan
People want to see what they could do or how they would stack up.
I bet every person on this forum can come up with a good original example.
That's also why these cars get the most cheers at the local dragstrips.
Hearse
Ambulance
Firetruck
Icecream truck
Hummer
etc.
The biggest draw is not always the fastest car. What people remember years later is that they saw an 11 second hearse.
I believe it's an inherent part of Human nature, like wanting to see who would win in a fight Superman vs. Batman.
Plus another inherent human characteristic is It's fun to go FAST!

Because it is fun! In bracket racing you don't have to have the fastest car or the most drag raceable car, you just need to have a consistent car. And it doesn't matter what it is....

competition is what drives most to any competitve sport.
I switched to Road Racing fom 1/4 mile only because I needed more of a rush then the 11 seconds that my car can run, but I loved the competition of a 1/4 mile.
I also liked the fact that I could do better as a driver. there was self-accomplishment in running lower and lower ETs without making changes to the car.
So yes the car is probably designed better for road racing, but the fun of hitting a perfect light and snagging a victory by .001 seconds makes it worth it.....

I have actually just recently been biten by the road race/tourning type style racing bug and my new setup will be strictly geared toward that type of racing. I drag race for years and just tried something new and loved it. I will drag race the car a couple times but suspension will be setup towards handling not straight line runs.

Apartantly you dont road race much either or you would know that 99% of the owners of these cars cant road race them either.
I guess we always need lap traffic

i think the corvette is more of a GT than a sports car but then with a few mods you can have what you like

thanks Chris.

Be good,
Tom
there is alot less chance of doing damage to your car on a dragstrip. mechanical failures can happen on either track, but trading paint or overcooking a turn and slamming into a wall normally doesn't happen on a dragstrip. what fun is it to ride around at 80% on a road course??? if you go 110% on a road course or curvy road, your car might not survive.

How do you steer it with just the back wheels on the ground?
James
Lambos & Ferraries break when you launch hard time after time......they can go fast on the autobaun, but at the dragstrip they are far to frail.
We have over 150,000 miles on our 98 vette, much of it a 1/4 mile at a time. The car is raced everyweekend 2-3 races often entered with 2 drivers. It is in the finals more than not and has paid for it'self a few times over in win money, and the PCM controled LSX based cars are easy to tune to super consistancy.
Road raceing takes a ton of skill & wears out brakes like nothin, but we chase over $100,000 in win money a year & have a blast doing it!
Look over at the drag racing section of this forum and read the stories about how many vettes dominate some classes of drag racing.
The vette can do it all and with more durability most sports cars.
