Default Need some help here.....

Man, we are having a time trying to get my car running.

Problems:
1) Car in reduced power mode (I'll have to get the codes when they show up again since they were cleared; some research shows to be a ground)
2) Car is eating yellow top batterys like nothing. I have a PTK aternator that we have self exciting (now that means we have a free connector that is putting out 12 volts ) Not really sure if that is the culprit or not and really don't know what is pulling the power.
3) The last firing of the car resulted in weird sequences. Let me explain:
The car runs fine for about 30 seconds or so (still in reduced power mode and little throttle response.....obviously) and then it seems to choke, then let out a really loud pop. Now here's the weird part....the driver side headers are reading 77* while the passenger registers ~160*, yet the car seemed to be running on all 8 cylinders before the backfire.

We know we have some sort of electrical gremlin, so my question is....anyone have any ideas?

I can't say anything about the battery, but a few months back I was having a terrible time with the same backfiring you explained. Mine was kind of on and off, but usually happened after the engine reached operating temperature. Backfires almost sounded like semi-auto gun fire. Anyway, it turned out that I broke one of my plug wires inside causing the first cylinder to only fire sporadically. The unburned fuel was igniting in the exhaust system causing the backfiring. I would test the wires or coils. Hope you get it figured out soon. Sorry I couldn't help out more.

Any ideas are helpfull

I was doing some reading last night and also came to the conclusion that I am needing some bigger gauge wire for the battery in the trunk. I think this may be a culprit for the battery issues.

We'll get it going.

Can I get some details on your setup? Also what were you doing the first time that it went into reduced power mode? Was the car just idling?
