Got the Dorman piece today from Rock Auto. It looks nice. All metal construction and the retaining tabs inside are metal as well -- just like the OEM hose end. Also it's double barbed so it can be double clamped. Nice! Since it looks just like OEM I will venture to guess that it is going to hold fine and not leak -- the retaining mechanism is so much better (at least it appears to be) than the flimsy Russel retention clip.
It also has a built in plastic ring that depresses the quick disconnect tabs which is nice -- no hunting to find the disconnect tool, just press it in and pull the hose off.
OK I'll admit, it's a bit sad that I am this excited about a hose end But I will add that it doesn't seem like this piece from Dorman is common knowledge so hopefully knowing that this piece is out there helps the community a bit.
The new quick connect assembly is on the car. It works great so far! No leaks of any sort, not even a hint of fuel smell. It's not as clean as the old Russel setup but it will do just fine.
The added length of using pushlock hose on top of the already long quick connect barbed fitting has caused my fuel lines to no longer sit together, but I can trim some length off some other time to account for that.
Jersey - how hard was to to relo the coil packs? Hours involved? What kit did you use? I am interested in doing the similar mod with the oil breather
Thanks
Not to take Tony's thread off topic but:
Relocated the coils twice so I'm an expert now.
Had issues with the 1st relo due to RF issues reaking havoic with the PCM, EBCM and speed sensors.
It's labor intensive as you have to cut the coil harness into 2 and use tracer wire to extend the original harness on both sides along with making new plug wires. Had special brackets so the coils now take up minimal space. One set is mounted in the drivers side acess wheel well panel and the other is mounted in the eng. bay on the battery box divider, this was the 2nd install. Car purrs like a kitten now with no codes being thrown @ WOT which in the 1st install I was throwing a 1226 code.
Hours to do it right 8.
Breather catch can relocation in the nose was a great mod, no more oil vapor smell and no more oil residue in the engine bay.
My Russel LT1 to -6AN adapter popped off on me while the engine was running! Thankfully the engine wasn't too hot and the car was on jackstands in the garage, but I about **** a brick when it happened!
