A guy from a shop told me that to supercharge the corvette would cost around 15 000$..
Because the corvette has high compression. It seems that I need more than jsut a bolt-on supercharger.
Did it cost 15k for you ?
Has that guy supercharged any corvettes???
Over 500 "SAFE" RWHP can be had with just a bolt-on kit and good tune. The tune is key. ECS built my pervious ATI D1SC setup. I got 18,000 trouble-free miles on the same belt....not one problem.
I personally would go with the ECS Paxton kit if I were to ever supercharge again based on my previous experience. The kit is nice!!!!
I understand the importance of tuning. This is primordial.
here's the email
Your best bet is to go with the 2003 Z06 and do headers and a cam - the car
will be very fast. The parts are not expensive either. If you do some real
nice heads and a big cam you will put down the same rear wheel horse power
as a 2006 Z06. A supercharger may not be a good idea because those motors
have such a high compression ratio - especially 8-12 PSI. The motor will
blow.
Doing the motor and the supercharger will be a $15,000 ordeal at least. It all depends on the exact performance results that you are looking for.
(me) That's quite pricey for the vette. I guess I will need to borrow 15k more ? I don't know if it's possible. I thought a basic S/C would cost 5-7k MAX.
Just for the supercharger – nothing about the fuel system, installation, or tuning – and then how much do you think a long block is? To rebuild the motor and put a nice set of heads on it using stronger parts is going to be $7-10k depending on the parts.
8 PSI on a stock should not be a problem with the right tune....many people running superchargers at this boost level on the stock block on this forum for a long time. $8,500 should get a turn-key package with a safe tune...
So go get yourself a Paxton kit installed.....and start having some fun
Well...Thanks for the reply I sure don't want to ruin the engine. I can't pay 8-15k twice.
bottom line is that is you are worried about and are unable to afford to replace an engine then I would stay away from FI (or most any mod to the engine for that matter), yes it CAN be done reliably and for around $8k, but then again bad things do happen from time to time.
I have 30k FI miles on a 100k mile engine running 12psi of boost, but I keep $$$ tucked away to rebuild the engine at any time and I do not use the car as a DD. heck it has been apart for 1 month now while I teach myself how to paint lol.
