Default broke something!! (pics)

Well today I was changing out my snow performance Meth pump, it was not in bad shape but decided to upgrade to their newer more 100% meth resistant pump. Also i installed one of there servos since my washer tank is higher than were the meth sprays into the intake.(i had some meth leaking into my throttle body on occasion). I had MTI install the original system but when i looked at how the pump was installed i figured how hard could it be, it only had two wires and the servo just splices into the ground and power wire.
Well anyways once i had everything done i decided to take it for a spin and get it up to the 4lb spray point. I slowly got it up to boost and as soon as i hit 4lbs i got a bucking effect(serge and then a bog). When that happened i heard a loud pop and noticed my temps go up.
This is what i found when i opened the hood. .

Rob there are few threads around about this.

Pretty common. Do a search.. you can either get a newer bracket or get in touch with ECS. They have an upgrade for you.

Either way you will be in good shape.

If you want a stock replacement, PM Valvegod on here (Shaun).

This might be a stupid question,(im not very mechanically inclined, yet).
But what is the name of that bracket?
Thanks.

It's part of the power steering bracket. The stamped metal thin piece goes in front of the idler pulley and there should be another one behind it. The bolt and maybe a washer has got to be in there somewhere as well, unless it got lost when the bracket broke.

Tough break man...

I am working on a cure for that as well...bad news, and gets worse with 8 rib or higher tension setups. Older cars have it worse as well. My 01 bracket is not quite as meaty in that area as my 03.

It is the power steering bracket. It is a PITA to get off too. You will have to remove the lines from the resevoir and the rack to get it out or move the abs unit. Either way you need a puller for that pulley, I think mine was about 60 bucks or Advance, etc. will likely loan you one. You have to have a puller to get the pump off of the bracket.

Thanks for the help guys.
Question, why do you think the car serged/bogged right at 4lbs of boost? Could it have to do with the fooling around with the Meth pump and possible hooking it up wrong?

Not sure, but if the car is really rich it could have caused it to lay down when it came on, which could cause a surge, but that is just guessing on my part.

If you are going to continue to run big boost, these are the types of issues you will deal with.

Default idler fix

the easiest and also failsafe fix is the brkt from ECS. You won't have to mess with the power steering pulley and it will fix it period. The fact that its already broken makes the install easier.

ECS 609-752-0321 ask for the fixed idler brkt

I am running one on my 8 rib set-up. It uses a plate that has two more bolt holes to hold that in place. It's not going to go anywhere.
