Its like putting diesel in your fuel tank and complaining that your fuel pump went out.
The head leaks happen when the santoprene diaphram or check valve seal shrink. The shrinking happens when the wrong chemical hits it.
Now there are other issues that can cuase the leak, like fasteners loosening as well. On our pumps.. thats not an issue. And the other issue like the valve inside the pump deforming, tearing, expanding, changing shape. This was a problem years ago.. We have not had a single valve failure since end of Dec '05 due to the custom valve in place on our kits.
If you research nitrous solenoids you'll see that they list methanol solenoids or fuel solenids. They both have different style seals. There is no solenoid rated for both fuel and methanol. Kinda like ketchup or mustard.. dont mix em

Sometimes minor contamination can be remedied by sanding the head of the pump to increase its clamping force of the valve.. but this is really more of a temporary fix.. and the correct fix is really replacing the pump. The diaphram on the pumps as a part costs more than the pump itself.
If you have one of my pumps.. contact me. They all come with a 1 year no questions asked warranty. After the year.. then the call is made.
I cannot control whats poured into the container, how the alcohol is stored. Who MFG'd it, etc. Locally a speed shop that sold C16, C12, VPM1, etc.. they would buy it in drums.. and then they only had one pump in the shop.. they would pull the pump out of the C16 tank and then put it into the M1 tank.. what happens next is the methanol had been contaminated by fuel.. one month latter.. pumps are leaking and wondering why.
We go through 100 pumps a month. We see approx 2 pumps a month sent back in. We still have pumps working with straight methanol since late '03. In the last 9 months only one pump that was sent back in was a warranty claim. The rest were older pumps 2+ years for upgrades, cleanings, testing, repairs.
There are things that can be done to the pumps to extend the life of the seals inside of it. These strategies are employed in all the pumps we sell. I cannot speak for other vendors or other systems.
They may not be perfect.. but extremely durable.
So what to do.. keep clean methanol in the tank. There should not be any residue. And if your car will be down for 6+ MONTHS.. Consider draining the system. Just like you wouldnt leave your gas tank on empty for 6 months becuase it will pickup moisture and rot your fuel pump hanger, pump, etc.
Hope this info helps
