Default Afr# Help ??

Maggie 7.5 lbs, kooks long tube and x pipe with b@b prt and black wing intake. Every once in a great while engine light comes on and states lean left bank. I am having it tuned and looked over this week. What is or should be a safe number to run so I know I am not to lean? I would rather sacrifice a little power to make sure I am safe. Thanks for the help.

stay 12.0 or under on a blower car to be on the safe side. That gives you some cushion for cooler weather. Some people do tune higher but 12.0 or under is very safe

take care

.......I'm at a safe 11.8 AFR, w/ 7.5# boost...see signature for my set up. That has worked well for me. I am tuned with HP Tuners as well.

I have a 12.0:1 target on a Maggie with 10# boost. No knock with tuning on the street. WOT to 150+. Also checked on the dyno and still no knock.

Thanks a lot guys. Ok, I am at 12 from my last dyno run. I do it each and every spring and am due at the end of this week as I said. If I am still showing this number what should I look for? Possible vacum leak or bad 02 sensor? I did check the attatchments around my blackwing and I was able to tighten down a few of the clamps about 7 or 8 turns. Could this possibly throw a code? Did any of you guys have the tuner turn off the 2 back 02 and is this ok to do?

Thanks for the help.

your Tuner can & should set your rear 02 sensors to : "not report" (turns em off)
...that done, you will not see any codes relative these sensors..

Sounds like you're on the right track. Vacuum leaks, bad 02 or 02 wiring, exhaust leak taking in fresh air and getting to 02. Definitely ok to turn of rear 02's. They're only there to monitor the cats.

Bank one lean condition doesnt mean your engine is running lean. It means that the computer had to make long term fuel trim adjustments greater than +14% (adding fuel:positive) for more than 10 minutes. Because the computer made the adjustments, your engine is running 14.7:1.

If there is a reason that is keeping fuel from the entire left bank, your computer will adjust for it and lengthen injector opening time-until you hit WOT. Dont go wot until you solve the problem.

I just got back from the tech and basically he believes I had a vacum leak from where the boost a pump was conected to the engine. It was to a point where it would spin in each direction. He discounted the two wires from the boost a pump and tightend down the valv on the engine? Would this be enough to throw a code? I have not had the engine light on yet but, it also took a few hundred miles to set it off before.
