We have the sniffer test here in Canada and I just failed the curb idle test. My car is a 403 ci with a tiny 214-226 559/569 on a 115lsa. It has High Flow Random Tech Cats as well. Air Fuel gauge reads 14.7 - 15 at idle on the gauge.
Here are my stats
2500rpm
hc PPM = 218 Pass
CO% = .62 Pass
NO ppm = N/A
RPM = Valid
Dilution = Valid
IDLE RPM
hc PPM = 753 Fail
CO% = .70 Pass
NO ppm = N/A
RPM = Valid
Dilution = Valid
Anyone else passing these things? I thought I would pass easily.
Any thoughs? My guess is that the cats are probably not doing there job. Anyone have a specific tune done for E-tests with HP tuners?
I will send a PM to Arun and see what he says.
Help
If those guys are cool at the emissions test center, take your laptop with you and try pushing more timing in at idle if raising the idle like Arun suggested doesn't put you in the green.
Then try adding some Techron if that doesn't get you there.
Looks a touch rich,like cool cats. Bump the idle up close to the limit,get it good and hot,freeway hard run. retest,if still failing,pull a little fuel from the low end just to get it over the hump then reload your current tune.
I have a SMOG tune that I keep especially for the test!
It has extra amount of "TIMING" pulled at the bottom in order for it to get a super clean reading on the smog machine.
It is the low end timing that is too high, it is where they are most concerned - that is when you are at a stop idleing and running around town in the 25 MPH area.
So pull some timing and make sure the Vette is hot and good and warmed up and you should be good to go.
You might also have to pull a little fuel out at the bottom.
Take your readings to your tuner and he can do a "SMOG" tune for you and save it in a file - this is why I went ahead and got HP Tuners so I can have all my files on hand for whenever I need them or my tuner can help over the phone and e-mail.
thanks lads. I have owned HP Tuners Pro for 3 years and Arun is gonna hook me up as he is my tuner I just logged some idling and mild driving around town and sent it off to him for a look see. He is going to send me back hopefully a majical tune to kick this sniffer test in the a$$ I will keep everyone posted

Let us know how it goes:thubms:
Thanks,Matt
Hey Matt ..could you send me a copy of your smog tune file? Let me know
Just talked to Andy @ A&A as well and he also recommended lower the timing to 10 degrees across the board to get it to pass then just upload the normal tune after.
