Guys,
I recently bought a ported new FAST 92 intake and had it powder coated a glossy black. I am in the process of installing it, and I was warned yesterday, that it won't hold up to 10+ PSI of boost!
Has anyone every heard of this? I am afraid now to contineu with my project! I've already pulled my stock intake, and am getting it all cleaned up for the new one!
I sold the FAST 90 I bought for my project after I had read that Doug at ECS had one come apart on him. Pushing air and fuel all over the engine area uncontrolled is not for me.
From: Greater Detroit Metro MI, when I'm not travelling.
My friend Digivex on this forum has been running his FAST 78, which is an older and supposedly weaker design, at 18PSI of boost on his car for some time now, making 780something WHP... He ran a 10.5 @ 135 with the car back when it was "only" pushing 14 or so PSI and now he's shooting for 9s...
I think the FAST is about as likely to fail under boost as a stock manifold, and I'm interested in seeing if one can help my setup make more low end torque and gain a little bit up top.

Ok, everybody: I emailed FAST directly with this question:
"I just purchased a new FAST 92 intake. I want to install it on my 99
Corvette, with a ProCharger. How much boost will the FAST handle? I don't
want to blow it apart. "
... and this is their response:
"The FAST manifold is 30% stronger than a stock manifold. You should be good
up to about 50psi. Thanks for using our products!"

I dont think they would knock their own product where it breaks... they all leak after time. not initially.. after months of use on the car.
stronger than oem.. i dont know. doesnt seem so...
better quality than oem, hell no!

Our initial testing at 24psi did not show any problems with the FAST 92 intake. We're planning on running up higher, so we can give additional feedback later.
My ProCharger setup will only be pushing 10-12 PSI MAX. So, wiht the manufacturer's email, I will install it tonight as is, and if it blows, they will hear from me!

Yeah! Be sure and save that e-mail and let em' have it if it fails and they don't fix it.
I just printed it out, and placed it in my folder with all my documentation fo rmy vette.
Wouldn't be too bitchy with them, you chose to have it ported, removing some material and weakening the intake. I agree they shouldn't blow apart, but you have modified the thing.
How did you powder coat a plastic manifold? Did you just paint it?
I have several customer cars using the fast manifolds, with 700-1100 hp power from nitrous to boost, up to 18-20 psi, we have not had one explode. You have to remember there are unfortunately some malefactor defects here and again, some sony tvs you open out of the box are bad, this happens.
