I was wondering if anyone has upgraded their older A&A kit with the new ram air intercooler and piping and in the process stood their rad back up? I have a P1SC-1 kit from 2005 that I'm thinking of upgrading. I had been considering just ordering the stage 1 kit and using my original intercooler but I like how Andy's new IC is spaced so far from the rad and also has a ram air scoop to force air through it. The pricing is pretty good too even with the crappy Canadian dollar ($0.75 per u.s. dollar).
What I want to know is,
1) Will I see lower underhood temps, mainly coolant, by standing the rad back up and installing a ram air intercooler that is spaced 5" away from the rad?
2) What kind of increase in boost am I going to get? I've heard of some guys seeing up to 2 #'s.
3) Overall, is it worth it on a street driven car that never sees the track?
I already spoke with Steve via PM's. Just wondering if any other forum members have upgraded their older style A&A systems and seen benefits in both performance and dependability as well as decreased temps.
I'm curious to see the responses from people who went this route too. I still have the twin side-mounts that came with my D1 kit, and am looking to go to a front mount and Andy's looks appealing, but I need an education from people who did this.
I transitioned from Andy's first generation Vortech kit with the radiator laid down to the next generation where the radiator cradle was lowered and the radiator itself was moved into a more vertical position. In the process I also ncreased the air gap between intercooler and a/c condensor coil by doing a little tweaking and bending of the intercooler mounting bracket. This along with the aluminum shrouding that came with the update kit made a big difference in temps. His latest creation will do even better and is on my list of "things to do"
Andy dyno'd a 600rwhp car and gained 8rwhp by changing to the new intercooler. That doesn't factor in the gains from a cooler charge since the car isn't moving though. A higher hp car will gain more. I had the first ram air that Andy sold. (literally) Andy made some changes after the initial design and sent me the updated version and I gained 1.5 psi boost and 50 rwhp from that change alone.
NemesisC5 and blownbluez06, thanks so much for the input. You've helped me make up my mind! I am going to save up and buy the stage 2 kit with ram air intercooler instead of just getting the stage 1.

Bro-you will not pick up 2psi in boost. Maybe a 1 lb but you need to really be spinning your blower fast to take advantage of the larger cooler.
The newer design however really puts a nice gap between the cooler and the rad however which is a real benefit in the hot summer months.

Arun,
The air gap would be my main reason for the switch in intercoolers. Waiting anxiously to here from you tomorrow regarding my pm I sent you a few days ago!
