Question about forged engine
When doing a forged engine upgrade in prep for a s/c, do you need to replace the stock crank with a forged unit or can you do the upgrade with just forged pistons and rods?

Trick question?
Depends on how much power you're looking to end up with. Are you stroking it too? Iron block?

There's a lot of guys making a lot of power on a stock crank. Bunch of guys making well over the 700 mark. Hopefully myself included soon.

Just forging the stock block. I have heads, cam, intake, etc. I am buying the A&A kit and plan on running 9-10 psi if I do the forged block.

I'm assuming your talking of going the forged 347 or 364 route? Stock crank is a real tuff piece. No worries making 800 rwhp plus with it.

Correct Arun. I am going to remove my stock 347 and just add some forged parts to it. Just doing a rebuild in my garage, hence wondering if I need to replace the crank. Looks like I don't, which now makes the build much faster and easier for me!!!!

All you need are pistons and rods. We have yet to break a stock crank and we have a few fast cars out there.

Awesome Chris, thanks for the info. I really appreciate all the feedback.
P.S. I know you have a "few" fast cars, lol.

My little forged 347 has the stock crank and after 3 1/2 years it still motors along just fine and I have just a smidge over 700 rwhp

Stock crank and 347 is plenty.
