Default Air Filter Size

I have a problem with my car that it builds boost up until about 5800 RPM's and then the boost falls off. I thought it was probably belt slip and was going to order the flip drive kit, but I just thought of something. My air filter is a cone behind the driver's brake duct and it is on the MAF. The filter is a K&N and is only like 8 inches long and like a 4" cone. I was wondering if it possible that the air filter is too small and the engine is choking for air up top. I never really questioned it before, but it seems pretty small for a car making 530RWHP before the boost drop. What do you guys think?

That filter flows over 1000 cfm, I would check the belt.
