Default maggie troubles

Last week maggie started giving me some issues. Under moderate / full throttle she does not want to go vacuum at idle is 20-22 partial throttle she acts fine and boost gauge moves accordingly, at moderate to full throttle the boost gauge flutters past 5 and the car misses (prev it would shoot straight to 10) I have done nothing but put a new serp belt on. This morning I put an octane boost and new 91 chevron gas in it (and it always ran fine on 91 all winter). No change.

Is there something in the maggies that go bad that can cause this issue?

I was going to do plugs / wires / fuel filter is this a symptom that any of these could cause?

I was going to put the NGK that are reccommended for the maggie, but what wires are the best?

Any help would be appretiated.

Thanks

Toby

Sounds to me more like you have a vacuum leak.

Check the above first, plug the vacuum hose at the Maggie manifold (in the back near the firewall) ......also recheck the vacuum line at the front driver side of the Maggie.

Next look for signs of belt slip!
A new belt won`t help much if the tensioner is worn out.....recommend that you upgrade to the ECS billet tensioner/bracket...

Last but not least, it is common for the by-pass actuator (the round vacuum module that connects to the by-pass valve) to start acting up as the diaphragm looses flexibility!

I had that problem and it turned out to be a vacuum line getting tangled up with the bypass valve. Check to make sure everything is clear of the bypass valve and actuator at the front on the driver side and that the vacuum line is still connected. Also, make sure it is closing when you go WOT. Just open the hood and look through the windshield if you don't have anyone around to hit the pedal for you.

Few things to check first,

Make sure the rear belt is tight, and very tight at that.

You could have boost fluctuation from beat intake valve spring/springs.

If everything checks out ok, then the tensioner is most likely the culprit. This is a common problem, we sell a large amount of these.

so I will check that stuff this weekend. I ordered the tensioner, one thing I thought of is that it had high RPM belt slip so I went to a slightly smaller belt, maybe that causes the oem tensioner to "jump" a little. The heads have updated springs ect so I will check all vacuum lines and hopefully see my ECS tensioner soon.

Toby, I don't know how you can wait to check the simple stuff. I would be going nuts. No way I would be able to wait. Let us know what you find.

Simple..... Put to old belt back on. If that fixes the problem then you know the new belt is the culprit.

I second this idea. I just went though this & I replaced the belt with the correct size & also changed to the ECS tensioner. It has been running great with no belt slip at all anymore.
