That's what conventional wisdom would say-but how can you argue with the Renegade Mustang class where racers make 30+ psi of boost and run low 8's over 160 mph with a curb weight of 3500lbs and cubes as small as 302's.
EVERY racer in that class is limited to a 8 rib belt and they ALL run the Dayco Polycog belt.
Now from my own testing-whenever a Gates belt has slipped, a switch over to a Dayco or Goodyear fixed that-right away.
OK.I had the dayco-poly installed and Alas! The noise seems to be gone. The pulleys were all good. All is well in the world once again. No more Gates green-maybe it was too unforgiving as someone suggestedThanks for everyones input.I'll see how it holds up for the rest of the season-should be fine I hope.Oh yea-changed the ac belt also just in case.

The Goodyear is much more flexible than the Gates Green Stripe, particularly when cold. My original Gates was chirping on start up. No more with the Goodyear. Seems to wrap better due to its flexibility.
The important thing is to re-tension after installing a new belt (I did 3 times at 50, 100 & 200 Miles). Both the gates and Goodyear stretched almost 1/2". If you don't re-tension you can glaze the belt, which ruins it.
