Well I need to talk to them and question them on some of the $$$ they are quoting me. They quoted me 600 for a damn oil pan and arp bolt kit, it wasn't leaking oil so not sure what happened there. 300 for gaskets, ect I am not new to engine rebuilds all of it just seems so out of line. I am beside myself right now and drunk, lol. If I can figure out how to post the quote or email to some of you guys I will do that.

I run racing gas and meth so no worries about detonation or added expense with buying other heads when mine are fine.

You can sell your 243's for $500.00 and pick up 317's for $250.00 lower compression is better for a boosted car and the more boost you run the lower the compression should be otherwise it can rebuild time again.

When I put my car together before the meth kit I was running 100 octane at $100.00 a tank fills ups I am glad those days are over.

also I see I missed the 400 for redoing the torque tube, so now its only 11k. They also have 330 for an engine stud kit and 320 for a head stud kit, is that stuff necessary or is it overkill? Right now I gotta say I am leaning towards buying a crate ls6 for 6k and putting it back to stock, and then my next choice would be buying a complete shortblock and some heads (not sure which ones, 317's?) and telling them to put it back together.

Sorry they are screwing you over. $200.00 for a engine stud kit and $200.00 for a head stud kit. Most likely you already have reusable stud kits or head bolts in there from the last build. Did they say there was a problem with the tq tube.

If you buy a short block for 6k and some 243 heads for $500.00 used $1000.00 new Your at 7k. I bet by the time these guys have your bill done you'll be back at 10k.

I suggest you take it someware else. Post in you regional area and see if there any supporting vendors that can help you out.

I requested the torque tube bushings and this is an advertiser on here, I better talk to them and make sure this isn't just everything I could do if I want to, but don't actually need to do. I just want to make sure I have all my numbers in order before I call them and suggest other alternatives.

The economy is in poor shape...the shop thats trying to give you the shaft has no intention of foreplay or lube....walk on em and pm others to stay away. Nows the time for shops to realize they have to become more reasonable in their rates. I drove 4 hours away to a shop when in Dallas/Ft. Worth there are MANY competent but overpriced places I could have gone....saved a bit.

You do realize that compression can be set-up with the dishes in the pistons when building a motor right?

I sold my old Manley rods for ~400.00, one old head for 100.00, my old cam, timing set and lifters for 350.00. You can make this work for you!

Yes you could do it that way. But the bigger combustion chamber of the 317 heads is nice. Have fun with your build.

Contact RoadRebel (Dr. Phil). He is in Michigan. I took my car to him from South Dakota. His prices are better than any other shop that I have dealt with (and I have dealt with a LOT of shops) and his work is AMAZING. I used to do my own work but after surgeries I am limited to what I can and can't do. The prices your shop is quoting you are from 2001. Ask them to update their price sheet.

I would absolutely say that the JE pistons are worth the money... I just lifted a head gasket and torched the head and block on the dyno with a 350 shot of nitrous and my pistons held up 100%... We were all suprised how much they can take... She blew on a pass that made 865rwhp and 958rwtq... That LS2 block was strong as hell also...

Go for JE Pistons...

I realize vette prices are in the tank, just sold my 03z too cheap, but this is a mod red one and guys are looking for them. Seems the people that like the white really like it. I added everything up that has to do with the rebuild and it was 9600. Still thinking about just buying a ls6 and being done with it.

Why not just buy a forged shortblock from one of the sponsors? This way the car would be reliable and it wouldn't be as expensive as you previously mentionned.

I'd talk to RoadRebel aka Dr Phil, he is defintely one of the best!!!! He can build and tune anything you want and he is really good at it
