Just an update on what I have found out. What I was quoted was a top of the line build, some things were in the quote I don't need but could do if I wanted. Also, whoever did the last build was a moron and went cheap in some important places. For starters the pistons never were ment to have boost, neither the block or heads are studded, the heads are not ported like I was told, they are completely stock (never opened up for a 4 in. bore), cheap rod bolts and he also said something about the fuel system being marginal which may have led to the whole issue. So, included in the estimate, was a new oil pan (optional) and rod bolts, cnc heads for 4 inch bore, port int-ex, springs, and ss valves, block and head stud kit, new bushings for torque tube (which I don't need he said). So basically I have to pay for some of the stuff that should have been done before and wasn't for whatever reason. I want it done right and want it to be reliable. O and now that all this is cleared up, It is Doug Rippie Motorsports. I asked him about just buying a short block and said I could do that if I wanted but after talking with him I decided to let him do what he feels is right. He also said he is going to work with me on a few other things, he is a nice guy to talk to. It is still going to cost more than I thought but I am satisfied with his reasons.

juice12, I have to step in a bit and explain this a bit more. I don't want to look like the A-hole of the world. There is some miss information along the way that should be cleared up and it's mostly because I shell shocked you on a friday night. I heard you were coming up into town again later this week. Come early so you can spend some time looking at some broken parts and we can show you what is happening along the way. I don't think the quote was out of line, it was more vague and misunderstood.

Here is a few things I saw in this thread,

Valve springs, Comp 921 kit double checked by us, every installed height check not just two and called good.

JE pistons they custom build them for us. The rings have a positive $$$ charge, Coated top and sides, the shipping back and forth to the coater, the additional prep after the coatings. Sure the extra wait and expense sucks, but I'll show you a cheap piston. Like said before, they are stronger then anything around it.

Pan and ARP bolt kit. The bolts are for the rods. The ones in there are the lowest grade ones. Nothing worst then a rod bolt break at 6000 rpm at 11 PSI. The oil pan, we are big fans of the C6 pans. That is the roadracers in us, I see that is off the quote already.

234-4317 and 234-5608 are used for the studs. You will find the main studs there is a diffence in the price, this goes towards the add labor in the windage tray. Inbetween the longer stroke and the stud kit, it becomes time very easily. This is going to be much better then the already used three times head bolts.

Slamming parts together is something we will not do...

I am always around to answer any questions that I can. You will find us easy to deal with and fair people. As you can tell we are staying very busy and the shop is growing even in these weird times.

Anyways it's getting late and I'm on dinner duty

Randy
PS I have the cam card of what was in it. Do you have a fax number?

Randy, you don't look like an a-hole and like I said, I am completely satisfied with the reasons doug gave me on the cost of the build. I was alittle shocked at first, but after talking with doug about things I understand and like I have posted, I figured there was more going on than what I knew about last friday. I didnt post what shop was doing the work for those reasons, but I am proud to say who is doing it after I got all the details on what was needed and what is being done. You have been great person to talk with and never told me something that wasn't true.
