At work today I was talking to a tech that used to work for whipple. He says there were a lot of guys running nitro methane instead of meth as it does not change the A/F ratio?
I know there are many people here with a lot of knowledge, is there a benifit to nitro methane? It sounds like a lot of the issues from meth come from the changing of A/F ratio and if the pump fails the car may run lean?
Nitromethane would change AF ratios, because it's a fuel which still requires oxygen to burn completely. It may change AF ratios a good deal less than an equal volume of meth though.
Another downside: Kinda pricey.
One other potential problem: It has very different burn characteristics than meth or gasoline, and behaves like it has a very low octane. Meth will increase octane.
Maybe it would work though. We ran varying percentages (mixed with alcohol) in model aircraft engines without needing to make any other changes.
