Sorry to hear about your motor Get in touch with Rob@Champion Motors for a short block, your only 5 hrs away! He has plenty of blocks in stock and the turnaround time will be quick.

Yeah! bring us money!!! We're broke!

Sorry about your troubles. When my motor let go, I considered it a blessing. Forged is more fun!!

Is the block OK? Can you reuse it?

not sure what kind of damage...car seems to run...ok....even pull pretty decent....dont really want to start it.....maybe going to rent one of those camera scopes and check it out and see if the piston is broken....what kind of damage would cause a 30 reading on a compression test...broken ring or broken piston

Don't start it.
Pull the head and check it out.
Camera scope's not a bad idea though.
Mine blew the #7 (tuner was doing a dyno pull) and broke off the top of the piston and exposed the ring (about 3 yrs ago.) She was puffin' out the breather cap.
Did you see any white smoke from the tail pipe?

multiple reasons.
  • hole in a piston
  • melted/broken ringland
  • broken ring
  • cracked liner
  • broken/bent valve
  • blown head gasket

I feel your pain man. I had smoke from the tail and breather. Did a leak down and had over 35% on 1 & 3. Havnt got mine out yet but that was enough for me to pull it apart. Hope you get it fixed up soon.

no smoke from exhaust..no white smoke.....oil looks fine ...car even pulled ok...i knew something was up so i didnt push...pretty sure its not a valve....i used the stephescope to listen and really didnt hear anything out of the ordinary....not ready to take it apart because one way or another the car is still mobile....going to camera it...

Same thing that happened to me when I was on the stock block, pistons and rings! I lost my #7 rings and this is what sounds like happened to you!

I went with the LS1 347 Forged (My stock block) niw with 14 PSI of BOOST and 701 RWHP

I love it and it is totally reliable

Thanks,Matt

I personally wouldn't buy a used motor when you can get a nice 347 fresh instead. The S-Trim will mate up nicely and you will be good to go.

looks like im going with either lpe or a small engine shop with a great history....going to stick with a 347...going to step up to a T trim and a 8 rib setup with a 10 % innovators west overdrive crank pulley and run a 3.125 pulley...any ideas if im going to run out of fuel ...currently i have the pump supplied by a&a and a dual nozzle meth kit and 60 pound injectors...also insatlling an lg big 3 system...all i need is some fuel and im going to max out that blower

I would do a stock size balancer and go with a Cartek Flip drive. You'll save yourself a lot of money and aggravasion as you only have to deal with the crank and blower pulley.
