as long as the belt is tracking straight, you should be fine. I ran an 8 rib ECS idler with a 6 rib belt for about a year without problem.

why run eight rib pulleys with a six rib belt? dont you think its kind of defeating the purpose?

When doing a supercharger install you can throw on a 8-rib balancer since everything is a part and retain your 6-rib belt and pulleys. In the future when funds permit or when the need for more boost is required you are already set with a 8-rib balancer. Basically you save on some labour!

I have the opportunity to get the pulley size I want at a good price but it is an eight rib. I have a 6 rib setup now.

Make sure that you will not have an issue with head unit spacing, some kits require different spacers between the head unit to use an eight rib pulley.

As long as the balancer is the only 8 rib pulley you are using then you will have no problems. Spacers for the head unit will only come into play if you are running an 8 rib pulley on the head unit itself. Just run the 6 rib unit up top for now.

Later you will have the benifit of many different options available.
