Default Ls2 Ironblock/knock sensor question

The only provisions that I can see for my knock sensors are right next to the motor mounts but the motor mount interferes with the seating of the knock sensor. Is this where the sensor goes? If yes then I will grind the 1/4 " or so off the mount and be done with it....if not then up top it goes.
Thanks for your help

LS2 or LQ9/4?

LS2 is the aluminum block, LQ9/4 is the iron block.

If it is the LS2, you will have to modify the engine mount. If it is the LQ9/4 you use the Gen III Valley Cover (knock sensors up top).

Its the Lq9....do you think it would work to put it on the side cuz it looks to me like modifying the engine mount would work in this case as well for it is threaded?

I dont know about that one. I just used the valley cover from my LS6 on my 408 LQ9. There are two threaded bosses in the valley for the knock sensors already there.

On the side of the engine block there is 2 different size threaded holes.

The ones that are on the upper portion of the block (Kinda where the cylinders are) are already the proper size. This is where I place them.

SOme others actually take the slightly smaller holes at the lower part of the motor, and tap them for the correct size.

But either way you dont need to modify your motor mount for them.

Now, on the passenger side of the block, you WILL need to modify your motor mount for an extra bolt boss that will interfere with the flush fitting of the mount itself. Its easier to grind a little off the mount itself, rather than grinding the bolt boss down..

HTH,

Jeff

Oh wait, I saw LS2, and assumed it was the aluminum block.

On the Iron block (lq4/lq9) They go in the same place as the LS1/LS6.
