Default engine condition

Had the return oil pump go out on 99 c5. Got it back home. Did not lose oil pressure but had oil only to the tip of the dipstick.

Has the motor been damaged?

Replaced pump and all seems to be fine.

Did blow the dipstick out the other day but this normally does not happen. Has not happened since.

Would compression and leakdown tests be a good thing to do now.

Running 7.5lbs of boost.

Making 480 at the wheels last time tuned and dyno tested by ECS.

as long as the pressure pump for the engine kept up engine oil pressure you are probably ok. an ez way to tell is drain the engine and cut open the oil filter. if you lost oil pressure long enough you'll see some junk in the filter.

compression and leakdown will tell you condition of the valves and rings and "health" of the pistons and cyl pressure, but not the bearings

if the engine isn't making any bad noises and there is no bearing material in the oil and oil filter you are probably OK

you can also send an oil sample to be analyzed and they will tell you if the bearings took a hit from lack of oil pressure

oil to the bottom of the dip stick means it got really low, but you might not have "sucked air" instead of oil long enough to do any real damage

good luck and here's hoping for the best! boostamuv

First time I blew the dipstick out, I started having issues. Installed a new catch can system, with by pass valve, etc. Was probably 6 months later and about 1K miles I lost ring land on #2.. After we tore down the engine we also found that the ring lands were cracking on #5 as well.

Years ago when my 2000 Vert blew the dipstick out - it turned out to be worn rings letting combustion pressure get by - after tear down it was discovered that three pistons had double rings - and 5 only had one ring - (from factory!!) also had ring land crack as well - no forced induction at that time. Replaced pistons and rings and have had no issues since!!
