Default Intercooler

I currently have the procharger dual intercooler setup but I'm not a big fan of all the piping. I like the a&a and ecs designs (single intercooler) but I don't like the price. What are my options? Are there any decent and more reasonably prices single coolers out there? Im going to be running just 5-7 psi.
Thanks

Could always luck out and find someone who is upgrading from the old-style A&A single to the new one. From time to time you see the kits surface on these boards.

For 5-7psi though, I don't think you'll have to many issues with the twins. If it was 15 - 17psi you were after, then I'd say you'd have a larger concern.

I wasn't so much concerned with the ability of the twin intercoolers handling the boost so much as I really dislike all of the piping. The dual setup seems like a gimmick to me as all the big boys run singles. Since I don't plan on running big boost do you know of any decent budget intercoolers?

Pm sent.

Anybody else upgrading? Ideally I'd like piping as well, I already have the a&a sheetmetal radiator piece as well as the a&a aluminum polished upper elbo.

You won't need some of the pieces, like the BOV. I can take some money off for those things.

I actually prefer the dual setup. It does a good job cooling the charge, makes GREAT power, and with the coolers on the side, the engine runs super cool and NEVER overheats

The only downside to that is that the A&A ducting is smaller then the ECS ducting, so you will be bottle necking your ducting from the intercooler assuming you buy RacerRobs. I guess for 5-6 lbs it probably will not make much of a difference though. Feel free to give us a call if you need any of the adjacent parts to the intercooler, good luck with it.

im actually in the same boat dude, going back and fourth weather to get a fmic or stick with my twins..my cars currently at 706 rwhp at 11lbs. im uping the boost, a few real good shops say its not guna be a restriction then others do. also bob from epp actually likes the split set up. He kept it on a road race z06 for more air flow to the radiator and that car was over 760rwhp on a mustang dyno and had no prob with ait's. . also meth helps

I had the twins to start with but when I put more boost I needed the bigger intercooler to keep the intake temps down. Now that Ive went to the f2 need to go air to water cause this intercooler will never be enough

We were running a 427 with a f1r @ 26 lbs by the end of the run the temps were at about 190. On the street it was fine the intercooler could do its job.

I based my purchase on personel research. You should do alot of
research and OUR opinion's won't count.
A well made and a intercooler that has gone thru alot of R&D
is important to me. Frankly you will have alot of late nights
decideing what is right for you.
Good luck and let us know what you chose and why.

Explain to me why, if we run 3" piping from the blower to the intercooler, 3 1/2" tubing from the intercooler to the throttle body would become a "bottleneck".
The 3" tubing carries heated (and therefore expanded) air to the intercooler. The air coming out of the intercooler is cooler (and therefore denser) which would actually allow more air to flow through the same size tube. While the difference would be minimal, it still favors airflow on the back side of the intercooler.
Only if you ran 3 1/2" into the intercooler and 3" out, would the ducting to the throttle body be a restriction.
I know you think I must be wrong, so explain it to me.

With the boost you are running I would not worry about changing unless you want to up it to 10lbs or more, just install some spal fans behind them for a cooler charge, I got a set

The only real proof would be to measure the pressure at the intercooler exit and then the throttle body entrance. Then reverse the gauges and measure again. I'll bet there isn't any negligible difference. Either way, I made over 1000RWHP with that bottle neck.

Just a follow up. I've decided to ditch my twin intercooler setup in favor of the A&A single itercooler setup. As an engineer I appreciate simple, effective, and elegant designs. Oddly enough I judge a solution based on the gag factor. The twin procharger twin intercooler setup is simple less effective with A LOT more overhead than the A&A setup, and quite simply all that tubing makes me gag as it is unnecessary for my goals.
