Default Pondering nitrous

I didn't see a sticky on this, and most of you guys tend to go charged. I don't want to do this as I have another car that is supercharged so I want to try something different on my 02 z51 w/ 77K miles. That and I dont ever plan on dropping $5+ grand for any mod on any of my cars (nor do I have the income to make that happen).

So far Ive been advised to go with an NX or NOS brand, and a wet setup. I would like to run a 100hp shot. But nothing is set in stone and Im open to all suggestions. This would be a late xmas gift to myself next spring.

The car runs DTC light free. I just tuned the car and dyno'd it today at 396Whp/375tq so that is what it would be added to.

I bought the car as is (minus the tune) and from what I recall here are the mods if it matters:

LS6 intake
ported TB (which was hacked to say it nicely)
MS3 cam
Unsure of the heads - but they were a package to match the cam (sorry Im not great with heads terminology yet)
Vararam intake
LG long tube headers with high flow cats
Trans is a built up T56 and not sure of the clutch but they handle the current power just fine
bunch of other little things but mostly cosmetic (HIDs, vented/drilled rotors, euro tail lamps, short throw shifter, etc.)

Thank you for anyone with input. I feel like the slowest guy here.

That's how I started, with a NOS 5177 LS1 dry kit. Got it used for a few hundred bucks. I didn't add any bells and whistle like purge, window switch or bottle heater. It was good for 1 sec ET and 10mph, best bang for the buck ever.

You've come quite a long way from those days according to your sig.
Do I really need all the bells and whistles for that kit? I believe in doing something right the first time, but I also believe in not blowing money on something that is not even needed. I found a "Dyno Tune" brand kit on ebay, but I've never heard anything about that brand, good or bad.

thanks for your response.

Yeah no kidding, its like a gateway drug. If you goto holley.com and search 5177NOS, you can get some info and instructions. The accessories are nice to have but not needed. Lots of other kits out there, I just happened to find that one in the classifieds and had good luck with it.

I just put the NX EFI Race Nozzle Kit on my car. Very straight forward, no bells and whistles, just a window switch! Put the car on the dyno and it made 405/371 NA, and 495/492 with the 100 shot. Took it to the track an hour later and it went 11.0 @ 128 3 passes in a row

I'm hooked!

Nothing wrong with Dyno Tune..
There are several guys that have DT on the forum.
I had NOS plate kit with DT dual purge kit for like 3 years.
No problems here..

I started out with a dry kit from Nitrous Outlet. It was easy to hide and simple to have a tune done on. I used it for a sleeper approach and it served me well. I eventually upgraded to a direct port with a dedicated fuel setup.

Are you set on having a wet kit? Additionally, have you upgraded the fuel pump any?

i am not set on anything right now. the previous owner said he ran a 150 shot on a nx wet kit before.

are tunes 100% required on any kit, any hp shot?

It depends on mods and shot size. Folks can get away with around a 50 shot without a tune and no mods. Once you add in the mods, you probably have a tune optimizing your current settings. So the new tune would be to back down some timing so things do not melt (typically take out 2 degrees per 50 hp of nitrous). You will also need to consider a spark plug change. My personal recommendation is you are on the border for needing say a racetronix fuel pump setup and hotwire kit. If you went to 150 I would not do it without that. And pretty much anything over 200 it is best to use a stand alone.

ok, I was kinda thinking the same thing as the previous owner told me the injectors and fuel pump are still stock to his knowledge (he didn't upgrade them).

I think I'll stick with a 50hp dry shot for now then, just to keep things safe and much cheaper.

Just make sure you still have enough injector % for the dry shot. I think with the 50 shot there should not be any issues, but if you went to 100 dry shot the injectors could be an issue.

Btw Dynotune makes some good accessory stuff besides kits. I run their bottle heaters, opener and gauges in my car all without issues.

FWIW my 02z maxxed the stock injectors when it was BONE STOCK with a 75 dry shot. I use a Harris Interface to pull timing, but on the 75 I pulled none.

I just added a shot to tickle my supercharged LSX too.

Starting out with a 200 on top of 20psi.

How much would it cost to run a 75 shot, installed and tuned?
