have a stock LS6 with an A&A V-3 Si trim Vortech.....
Yesterday at the track made a few passes and last pass of the day
good 60" time then the motor pretty much laid down and was about 1.25 sec and 24 mph off. In the pits the motor idled fine, good vacuum, no codes so I drove it home (about 40 miles).
It sounds like the BOV is stuck open, motor doesn't build boost and it makes that "sound" most the time. The BOV is a TurboSmart plumb back unit. Do they occasionally stick open? Should I pull it, inspect and clean it and put it back and see what happens?
Man I thought I hurt the motor that last pass, but I think I'm ok.
Yes, sometimes they stick. Maybe the vacuum line came off and the boost is pushing it open. Take it off, plug the hole and see if you have your boost back.
Correct my if I'm wrong but the vac HOLDS most BOV's open. There is a spring inside that will force it closed without vac.
You are correct, but the springs are light weight, and cannot contain the boost pressure. The actual boost pressure will push it back open, when the vacuum line is on it, you have the spring plus boost pressure on 1 side, and just boost pressure on the other. That way it stays closed.
