Default oil return

Has anybody tried to use the oil drain plug as an oil return?

I would think that a check valve with a pressureized line might work, such as the STS oil pump kits. Any thoughts on the idea?

If that works, it would be a very good alternative to drilling a hole in your oil pan. I went with a self contained supercharger.

I would want the drain to be above the oil level in the pan and it would have to be for a gravity drain. If you are using a scavenging pump I guess it could go below the oil level but it would make it have to work harder. In a scavenging pump setup where people do not want to tap the pan I've seen them return it up through the valve cover.

Plus I wouldnt want something that low to the ground with a A/N fitting on the pan, if it got hit are what ever.. Robert

Nope because it won't work below the oil level on a gravity drain system.

Well, you'd have to throw out the gravity fed conclusion. Because if there is a remote mount system, then the only way to return the oil would be via Pump.

With a check valve I can see oil being pumped back into the drain, My thoughts would be weather or not, the weight of the oil would oppose to much force back the opposite direction.

Look at where your return line is mounted on your blower and where oil is typically Being returned to (lower then the blower). Between the location of the return line on the blower (gravity) and the pushing into the blower of fresh oil ( your oil pump) and the movement of internal components of the blower this makes for an effective means of oil return so as long as there's no other force working against the retuning oil. Like crank case pressure Ect. All in saying is maybe it will work the way your suggesting but I'm pretty certain your not the first enthusiast or pro to ever think about this.

Give it a shot and let us know how it works. Rest assured your not the first enthusiast or pro to think about this.

Yup, i figured i wasnt the first. But i can find info on remote charger systems with pumps, but nobody trying the application. Im going to return to the valve cover for the reason of lack of research, and its what i know to do other than tapping the pan.

This was just a hypothetical question any ways, theres more than one way to skin a cat. I dont have the time or money for experimenting. It would be nice to flush the oil in your turbo system during a change, i suppose a purge switch would work too.
