Default Meth / Tuning questions

What are ya'lls opinion on tuning my car. I am on a A&A blower on 11 PSI with a LS6 intake, header, and catless x-pipe. I should be getting a cam in next year but I am not worried about it right now because hopefully I will be building a motor on the side

Anyway

2 bar tune vs a map tune on a car making between 500-600 HP, alot of people say the MAF doesn't respond well between 5-6k RPM and that they are a pretty big restriction of flow on a car like mine.

What do ya'll think? Should I get it removed now and go to 2 bar or stick with my maf for a while?

Also Meth, I live in LA where I regularly see 100+ days for over a month at a time. I really think it would be a good idea to run meth and add 1-2* of timing but still just use it on the side of caution... what do ya'll think?

I am looking at devils own DVC-30 stage 2 kit. I have done alot of research and I know about Julio and stuff but I will get a good deal local on that kit.

I have searched through here many times and it's always older threads and split 50/50 on which route to take

If I saw temps like that I would be running meth no doubt about it. As it is meth is still on my short list.

Maf vs 2bar can go either way at that power level I would say. I once started a maf vs sd tune thread and it got pretty ugly. For me it came down to my tuner feeling better about a maf tune for my needs so that was the direction I went.

My tuner does 50/50 and I trust him to tune it. He tuned my GTO to SD and I never had issues, he has tuned alot of cars and many 9 second cars.

2 BAR is the way to go !

Yes do Meth for safety, which will also net more RWHP!

Do plenty of research on your said Meth kit - I have been running my Alkyontrol kit for years and wouldn't change a thing!

My buddy runs a different system (Snow ) and it is a toilet system!

Thanks,Matt

I have previously said I already know about the alky kit and I am getting a good deal locally...

I would like to know why you think a 2 bar will help and/or what things it does improve.

My car is SD tuned and I run a snow meth kit. I much prefer the way my car drives in SD over MAF. I might switch to the alky meth kit in the future but i haven't had any issues with the snow kit.

When I switched from MAF -> SD, the drivability was drastically different. I love the way a properly tuned SD car drives. Just go 2-bar and be done with it.

Meth-I installed and run the AlkyControl kit. I love it and it has never given me problems. I'd venture to say its the most proven methanol injection kit on our platform-maybe any platform that I have seen. The best advice that I can give is to make sure your tuner is knowledgable and comfortable with tuning meth injection and knows how to properly setup the safety precautions in HPTuners in a event that something doesn't work as planned. I know who your tuner is and have nothing negative to say about him-however, I have chatted with him a few times and he has openly told me that he hates meth kits and doesn't like to tune them.

Good luck man and you know if you have any questions, feel free to holler at me.

I'm afraid your definition of a good deal might be skewed. Not saying it is, but it might be. For me to determine a good deal, I would have to be able to properly, fairly and objectively compare products. Pump construction and quality, controller function and design quality and overall system performance and quality. Pump pressure vs flow volume is a consideration as well. What I am saying is that you are not comparing equal products. I liken it to comparing a Mercedes to a Kia.
It's possible that you'll buy the Kia and end up happy with it, but it's also possible that after the purchase you'll find disappointment, discovering that saving money isn't always the best course of action to take.

X2.....

Lot of folks like 50/50 I don't drive the car that much and went straight meth.
Had seen ECS post about going straight would net you a lot more HP on it and like others that had never gone that way, I had to make that call.
Found Ed Hutchin's . One hell of a tuner.
Car at the other guys shop was making 498whp but he didn't have a clue what he was doing with the meth or the supercharger for that matter.
When we got in there he had a 10 pound boost switch on the meth. At that time I was running 8.5 pound of boost.
Now > 554whp 550 wtq. upped it to 10 on the boost and straight meth.
Fixed the meth and finally got someone on it that knew how to tune .
Had this last shop install a led light when the meth comes on so I know its there. Love that added security but the car with the 3.90 gears and Roots blower pulls with the 2 bar I never have to use the meth now..
Pass three and four cars and never get into more than 1 to 2 pounds of boost. Awesome feeling.
Just make sure your comfortable with the install and that little LED light on the gauge pod beside your window or somewhere you can see it is worth a whole lot of peace of mind when the meth turns on.
Good luck...

This is going to sound a bit harsh but take it from a guy who's been through more then 1 brand of meth kit on a F.I. vette. There's only 1 that's worth a damn. Alky control. Period.

Devils own, cooling mist, AIS or AEM are decent for 4 banger cars but not for the vette. In the grand scheme of a quality meth kit 200 bucks for a used $400 kit isn't worth it when a new alky control kit is 650 bucks tops.
