Don't kid yourself about a supercharger being any less potentially dangerous. All it takes is one bad fuel injector or fuel pump to hole a piston(s) with a supercharger. Especially on a cast piston stock bottom end.

...True, yet I have yet to see a nitrous set-up with a 3 Yr/36000 mile warranty on the drive train.

You get what you pay for. When you pay LPE $8k, a good part of that cost is the warranty. For those don't like to, or can't work on their own car that is money well spent.
For someone who can read plugs, needs 450rwhp 5-10% of the time and doesn't want to spend that much money, nitrous is unbeatable.
BigBlue, I installed the nitrous and it is awesome. I use it very little on the street, hell I never need to use it. I installed a purge valve and routed the line out the side gill, every time a hot car rumbles up and starts flexing I just shoot the purge and for some reason they take the next turn!! I do agree that the S/C would be fun with power all the time, I just can't see the value in it unless Lingenfelter installs the unit and increases the value of the car. I would caution you on the ease of nitrous, this is not a quick and easy install. I am a freak for clean installs with all of the goodies and safety features. I bet I have 50+ hours in my install. I thought the kit would be very easy to remove, I dread the day!!
Have fun,
LoudMouth
There are a few things that you have to look at when deciding between nitrous and a supercharger. The first is how much do you want to spend and the second is when do you want the extra power. If your not looking to lay out to much $ nitrous would be the way to go. If $ doesn't matter then you have a choice between the two. If you only want a power increase once in awhile nitrous can provide that while a supercharger will give you the extra power all of the time. It's always turned on and doesn't need to be refilled :)
Nitrous will make more torque than a supercharger but as mentioned it's only there once in awhile. It's easy to put together a 500hp supercharged car.
If it weren't for the initial price difference, there would be no debate. Try following me up my favorite mountain road and see how long the nitrous will last. What's interesting is how long it takes the blower to pay for itself in terms of nitrous refils. At $40 a refill, once a week, a year's use will come to $2,080. Two bottle a week habit: $4,160. Not to mention initial installation. Seems like if you're gonna keep the car for more than one year, the supercharger makes more and more sense.
Fortunately nitrous is $2/lb at my local speed shops. I go through about 10lbs when I go out racing during the weekend and I race about 20 weekends a year. At that rate I run $400 worth of nitrous a year. That's a lot of cheap fun.
I stand corrected. I picked up the $40 dollar a bottle cost from another topic on this forum. The guy's speed shop won't even top off his bottle, they vent the balance of the gas and stick him for a whole refill! I see from the price, they're sticking it to him in more than one way. After venting the gas, he must be still laughing at the cash register.
I agree, NOS will do the job, but if you can afford it the "always there" S/C can't be beat. I don't want to charge bottles, flip switches, and just when I might need it, it runs out.....OUCH.
A blower might cost more, but IMHO, for the long haul, having it right there under the gas pedal at all times and knowing it WILL work is priceless. NOS is definitely cheaper as far as initial setup - but I agree, the hassle with the bottles, the refills, all the safety mechanisms, etc. is a pain. Let's not forget that really nice "Hoover from hell" whine that tells everyone you're going after the dust bunnies with extreme prejudice...
No regrets here at all - I absolutely LOVE being blown. :yesnod: :blueangel: :p: ;)
Right on...Heres a scenerio...It's Friday night, a 911 or say a viper pulls up beside you, BUT WAIT, can i go fill my bottle!!!!Not in this life
time...I do see where nitrous would be cool, like at the track but in the real world, not :)
Hi guy's, I've reading all the replys about nitrou & blowers, and have found it very interesting. I, like a lot of you would like to have the extra HP once in a while. I drive my car mostly on weekends and once in a while that Mustang or something else wants to play. So, I think nitrous is for me. My question is which would be the best for my need ? About how much would it cost ? And I also am a neat freak, so what will it do to the appearance fo the interior, ETC. Also, which would be the best street exhaust that is not to loud, but gives max. proformance ? Jim
