I would think that a C5 with at least 500+ hp should achieve 200 mph. It would be in 5th gear in most C5's depending on gearing. I would like to think my car would top 200, but who knows, and I am not about the find out for myself. It is a interesting topic. I may look at some of the Texas Mile Shootout videos.
200mph is flat movin out anyway you look at it.
Plan on runnin my car at the Texas mile this fall. I've looked at the 2013 spring events runs and not to many vettes breaking 200.
I've talked with a few guys and my car, stock LS1 block, 243heads, 90mm intake, procharger(7psi), stock Z manifolds, straight pipes into B&B bullets should run close to 180mph.
Never been over 140mph clocked, so 170/180 should be pretty exciting. Have the SC kit, haven't installed yet, still looking for a pro shop here in CO to install and dyno. Car makes 400rwhp currently and should be close to 550 once SC is on.
In a standing start, one mile run, most of our cars will not see 190 mph. I am talking about a four or five mile run like at the Silver State Challenge.
If you do the math, 5th gear is .74 overdrive. So with 28 inch tires, 3.42 diff.
6000 rpm= 197 mph
6100 rpm= 201 mph
6200 rpm= 204 mph
I am not sure we can pull 6100 rpm at that speed in fifth gear.
On my dyno sheet, rev limiter kicked in at a little over 6100 rpm.

It makes more sense when you break it down that way!

Always enjoy your vids Joel.
In my experience I have found;
C5's get a scary around 170
C6's get scary 175-180
and C6Z's get scary around 200
Never ran a ZR1 fast, I bet that would be better though
Not modified cars suspension wise, which would change that I'm sure if it were, and there is a chance that some of that feeling is simply in my head from the adrenaline pumping overtime, but thats what I have experienced. That was also sustaining the speeds, not reaching it and immediately backing off.

Thanks Doug! It is different to hit top speed on a runway, then back right off, vs holding it for a while. There really is an adrenaline rush to it, that I'm sure outways many things. On the runway events, it is usually hot, and you have to wait for a bit to go out, and you are all suited up for safety. I usually put everything else on the side and do everything in my power to get the most out of each run, hence the reason I did not back off much even when I went sideways at 90 MPH. I still hit 201 on that run...
