Default Question from ignorant guy (me)

Please pardon my ignorance in posing this question. I would have done searches but I wasn't exactly sure what keywords to search that may address my question.

Ok, so I am planning a Centri SC upgrade (hopefully sooner than later). I am planning to go very light on boost, never to exceed 8 lbs. Of course, that's what they all say huh

I would prefer not to install gauges in the car. If I plan to be in the 4-8 lb boost range then would it make sense to go with a setup where I had no gauges in the car? What are my downsides of doing so? I don't really track the car to speak of.

Gauges are always optional. Believe me, if you're making serious HP, you won't be staring at the gauges anyway.
They are more of a diagnostic tool. If the car acts up, you can look and see if you have a boost or fuel pressure issue. As long as you are a cognizant driver and pay attention to how the car feels, you should be fine at that level. If you're the type that just puts your foot down and is just oblivious to how the car feels or sounds, gauges may not help you anyway.

As Andy stated they're more ofa diagnostic tool. Me personally having boost, fuel pressure and wideband gauges is a good thing for diagnostic purposes. In addition my personal belief is that a guy should own his own data scanning and recording tool as well when owing a high performance car. It definitely helps from shooting in the dark when diagnosing issues.

Thanks Andy. That answers it. Yes I pay close attention to the feel.

Regarding the look of it, yes in some ways they look cool but the look is the main reason I am leaning toward no gauges. If it were a Mustang or Fbody or MOPAR or something like that then I'd do gauges but on this particular car I think I prefer without.

20 psi and 800+ rwhp. I don't have any permanently mounted visible gauges. I datalog if I need to tune or diagnose problems. Beyond that, I focus on driving.

I can see why you wouldn't want anything out showing.. It definitely looks cleaner without a bunch of gauges out everywhere. It's really just personal preference. That being said, don't be afraid to put something hidden in place so that you have the tools such as AFR to diagnose or check from time to time.

I have boost/fuel/AFR visible just as a matter of preference and safety so I don't have to grab my laptop to see what is going on. I would challenge anyone being able to really hear the difference between 11.5:1 and 12.5:1 let's say, if something had caused you to go lean. **** happens. Again, this is just my preference.

Andy, you're right man. More boost = worse tunnel vision
