Well, the weather has gotten hot and it's now 95 degrees outside now. The car (00 vert with P1SC) has been retuned and runs nearly correctly, but still with a knock spike at 4k rpm. It's off to the dyno soon to fix that problem.
First though, I need to get the car to stop overheating. Driving at 30mph (no boost) it rises to 230F. Idling it goes even higher. Turning the AC off helps, but it still runs way too hot. Those of you with ATI kits know the air filter housing blocks about 1/3 of the radiator opening. It also prevents you from using the 2 stock fans, replacing them with a single unit.
Possible solutions:
-Go to higher % water in coolant
-Seal up cracks around fan shroud to improve fan performance
-Pusher fan
-Better radiator
-Fabricate fan shroud that restores airflow to other 1/3 of radiator
I'm not really considering thermostats or having the fan come on earlier, because it's a steady state problem and a 160 and 195 degree thermostat will work the same when the car is at 230. Same with the fan- it's on, it just can't do the job.
Any ideas? I'll try adding water and water wetter first, but I think the problem is beyond the abilities of water wetter. Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated.
Are you sure the fan is wired correctly. Two other people had posted this same problem before and both times it turned out that the fan was wired backwards.
Actually I think these fans were installed according to the instructions but the fan manufacturer had them wired backwards. Check to make sure they're blowing in the right direction.
I havebeen visiting in Michigan and it has been near 100 outside...Mine shorted ou when it was installed, but it was in april, and still very cold and the fan was not working..I installed the new one and no problems..The fan should be pulling the air through,,good luck Thecooling on ati works great
Keep in mind that you have to do alot of trimming to the top radiator shroud to make this work with the ATI S/C. If you need help, contact me and I will tell you what needs to be done. :)

Re: ATI 7lb kit - Overheating (SomeDay)
We have the same trouble with temps. When A/C is on sitting at a lite temps go 240-245 that's to high.WE have done 6 kits they all run hot. I called ATI they said its normal. Well I knew I would not get any place with this guy. We are working on a new fan system to see if we can solve this trouble. Other then this running hot problem. The ATI kit is great.

I have the fans on @ 170 still with a/c on temps go up to 240-245 on hot days. If its cool out we see 200-210. With a push fan in front of condenser it may help. We are also working on a new air intake for the ati kits we installed.
My car ran hot as a SOB to day too... temps hit 252! The fan works and is blowing the right way. I am not sure if it is blowing on High or low... I will have to start the car cold and figure it out from there... Since that fan is a two stage fan, maybe the high speed is not working... I will keep you all posted.
I may need a pusher fan... Vette Doctors, let me know if you have a product I can buy to fix this problem. :hat
Try setting the fans back to normal settings. Here's why. The stock fans are designed to come on in stop and go traffic or very slow speeds where the water temp hits 229 degrees and then 235 for the aux fan. Driving at normal highway speeds airlfow may actually hit the fans terminal speed into the fan when on and not allow enough airflow past them if they are on all the time.
Does the rise happen only during slow driving or at speed?
I have changed the OEM fans to the new fan that comes with the ATI kit. It is a 2 speed fan. I really dont know when either stage is coming on or if the high speed is coming on at all. I did install a new spoiler the other day that eliminates the 3 rubber and plastic piece under that directs the airflow up to the radiator. Since the Car got hot (252 Deg) while in traffic, and took considerable freeway time to cool down.
The Spoiler has a tray that completely encloses the opening to the radiator and bolts on to the framework. Either I am loosing air while driving at freeway speeds, or the ATI Fan is not pulling enough air through the radiator while in traffic. First I will confirm that the fan is going through its two stages (low and high) Then I will seal up the bottom tray to be sure that the air is not being lost under the car unstead of going over the radiator. My Gut tells me that the ATI Fan is not working up to par.
