Today I went for a ride made about 4 passes in boost then I noticed I lost (3rd and 4th OD) not sure what happened but this trans has less than 1000 miles it always slid into 3rd but seem to hold until today?
4l60 is a level 5-6 with hard shafts and 2800 stall.
I hope its just stuck or something first time out in car after 6 month of sitting.
You more than likely have lost the 3-4 pack and possibly the band. It should never "slide" into third this causes a lot of heat and destroys the clutches very fast. How does your fluid smell?

I think your right I need to check the fluid too.
looks like I will be pulling my trans in my drive way again I need some help this time its getting old or im getting old
If you could get it to my shop, you can use my lift... makes it much more easier. This is one of the reasons i have yet to go auto.. seems like it takes a lot to not have any issues.
Bummer, I'm sure they're work with you and give a fair deal.
I hope so they have always helped in the past great guys

Hey Scotty, I have a level 6 RPM trans with a Yank SS3200 stall.
I have made about 30 track passes and 8000 miles with many of those in Mexico at 150mph +, I have put a beating on the trans in many ways without any issues. If you have had this problem since day 1, there must be something wrong with it when it was built. Granted you have more hp then I do, but your issue is not normal, I hope after you talk to RPM you get your problem solved as easily as possible! Good Luck man!

Your right my 1st trans lasted a long time 2 years with 800rwhp. that trans broke the case at the track.
this new one I have now always flashed into 3rd but it was too much work to remove and send it back. Now I wish I had!
I'm calling RPM this week I feel they will help some
There has got to be a place where the Trans is losing apply pressure for the 3-4 pack. They may have missed it the first time. Everyone makes mistakes (even though it sucks to have to pull it again). I'm sure they will get it taken care of. Maybe even cut you a deal if you talk to them.
Scott are you running RPMs tranny tune in the ECU as well? They are pretty particular about there tunes for sure (as one would expect).
I'm running their level 7 trans and the PCS controller using RPM's own tune, and I can tell you for sure that this tranny shifts VERY firm... the 2-3 shift will give you a very noticeable snap into the seat... and I have a very loose converter which often times "softens" the feel of the shifts...
I'm just wondering if there could be a parameter off in the tranny tune that caused the soft 2-3 shift initially, thus burning the clutches..... However it is well known that 4l60s have weak 3-4 clutch packs, even after upgrading. I would have thought you would get more miles/passes out of yours though..
Send it in and let them go thru it, then have Rodney look at your tranny tune.

my tune is good the first RPM shifted like you describe until I broke the case at the track 2 years later this new one never felt right..
I just finished up pulling and crating the trans up ships out tomorrow....
Thanks Robert I just went to Lowe's and got 2 sheets of osb plywood for $20 to put under the car made it a lot easier to slide around under there Now I need to pull the TQ tube and bell housing so I can put a new rear seal since I'm almost there and mine has a tiny drip from time to time...
Well that sucks Scott. but remember the 4l60 isn't rated for the power levels your at. they will hold for some track runs sure, and can "HOLD" but the 3-4 will always give out.
My 05 just blew the 3-4 for the 5th time its a RPM. i just fix them in house for this issue now, to much hassle to send them off when i know im just gonna blow through it again with 1100HP. this last set of clutches lasted 1.5 years though so that's a plus!
RPM will take care of you though they have always treated us right
Trans is on the way to RPM they said they will take good care of me Thats nice to see because now days you get no service after the sale Ill update when They call me with dammage
