With a 98 you have the nice fuel system with the return

I have a very similar setup on my 01Z and my goal was about the same as yours. It's a blast!

My car had over 65k on it when a blower was added

Thread here http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-f...rwhp-club.html

Aside from the power upgrades I did upgrade the clutch, rebuilt the trans with better internals (had a broken key anyway at the time), added a DTE trans/diff brace, and a Hinson trans mount.

Keep the sticky tires and hard launches off it and it will last a long time. Just make sure you get a nice safe tune.

I'm totally happy with the power but toying with the idea of forged pistons, rods, rod bolts, and a couple other goodies and push it even harder (700-750rwhp) but I'd likely have to change the fuel system more then too so I think I will leave it be. 600rwhp is awesome for the streets.

I'd say tuning 97/98 PCM may be challenge in some cases, although this is based on my rather limited experience with tuning C5/C6 Vettes.

For the OP, just check with YOUR tuner what he/she recommends.

I really wanna get to the 600 # idk what it is but i just have to lol ..
my tuner says my car can safely do over 500-550, but with my miles [93k] he says if it were him he'd probably leave it alone unless i get the bottom end built ... so now im torn between just working on this 98 or just stopping all mods and just waiting and save up for a c6 ls3 and eventually boost that? only difference is .. my c5 is almost paid off and with a new c6 purchase might be in the hole for another 4-5 years soooooooooo

If the drivability is fine with your current cam and -98 PCM, then there shouldn't be any problems when tuning with supercharger at off-wot areas.

For the reliability part I have no comments.

17 psi 346 ci F1d 817 whp 772 wtq Hptuners

Down fall is that I can only tune psi up to 15 since 98 ecu only recognize 2 bar. ITs not a huge deal since the rest is built into the tune other areas.

i am new to all of this so most of what you said didnt make sense to me but I AM planning to learn everything eventually.

I understand the 98 PCM only recognizes 2bar though my tuner pointed that out to me so im thinking of doing a PCM rewire to a 01-up before going FI

how reliable has your car been with the 800whp mine is going to be a DD im getting mixed responses with a higher mileage car and blowers, what do you think?

Its all in the tune man. A well planned combo and tune will go a super long way at your power level goals!

Friend of mine has a 04 GTO with 178K miles...Added a blower at 100K Miles Changes oil and keeps up the maintence. He also drives this car hard and does track days and auto x days etc.

Completely stock motor besides headers

Slap it on and enjoy it

It's all in everything, not just tune.

A clogged fuel filter after xxxK miles is all it takes.

Anyway, for OP, don't be scared. Big power is fun!

Very true.

OP I almost forgot to say that I highly suggest red locktite on the cam bolts and crank bolt if you do a cam or not. You must pin the crank!

I did the ls2 timing chain upgrade while I was in there since very few have broken.

Always a good idea to freshen up the filters etc

Gauges are nice as well.

I had a few close calls myself shortly after going FI this march:

Cam bolts backed out- almost lost motor ( red loctite now)

Fuel filter/regulator failed- gauge warned me- Could have lost motor if I hit boost in that condition- (new wix filter/regulator now)

I've seen the issues on other cars when not pinning the crank with a blower ( mine is double pinned)

I want to avoid the problems I had or have seen for anyone else going FI.

After it was all worked out it has been fantastic!

Feel free to PM me.

-Pete
