Default Data Logging - What Do You Use

I run a stock PCM and have HP Tuners and can data log with a laptop.
The problem with this approach is it requires a laptop in the car while you're racing. Not as easy as it sounds given you have to start the data logging in HPT every time the car restarts and I can't really be fiddling with the laptop once I'm harnessed in with a helmet/HANS on.

Are there are fairly easy ways to data log? I don't mind downloading the data with my laptop, but I don't want a laptop on the passenger seat while I'm driving 140+. Thanks

Your HP tuners should have datalogging built into the box. Mine does. Maybe that is the pro only version but I thought they all had it. Just setup the logging with the laptop then hit the button on the front of the box.

Efilive blackbox datalogging usually. It is such a pain to use a laptop that has to connect then start logging while your moving in staging lanes. HPTuners pro should have tbe same ability

That's a Pro only feature. Standard cannot do that. With Standard you have to have the laptop present and running.

Hopefully you've got the Pro, if not then get it. Alot of people have it and don't realize it.

And the regulars still sell pretty well, so it doesn't cost too much to upgrade to a pro. They occasionally pop up on eBay too

But do you have to hook up the laptop before killing the car to retrieve the log?

First you need to write your .cfg file once to the blackbox, so it knows what parameters to log. Open the HPT Scanner and goto: Scan > MVPI Pro data logging.

After you write the .cfg, then you can datalog anytime using the blackbox. Just hold the button a couple seconds until the record light goes red. Use the same Scanner menu to read/erase the files afterwards. I've logged a whole hour of data and wasn't full yet.

I've had hptuners pro for over a year and just found this feature out a week ago. lol I was to excited to start logging and adjusting the tune that I didn't read all the features. I've tried to do real time tuning but it always crashes.

pretty cool, I just recently got hptuners and am still learning how to use it... can you save multiple logs or only one?... I've noticed when using the laptop you have to save each log before starting a new one or the previous log will be deleted... it would be nice if you didn't have to plug the box into the laptop every time to save each log before starting the next one

well, then the good news is that you don't. You can start, stop, start, stop, start start and you should get 3 log files if I remember properly.

Everytime you start/top it creates a new file. There's a menu in HP tuners scanner where you can go through and download them individually or all at once, then save them/play them however you like

Thanks for the info!

I have Pro but never knew how to use the remote logger feature. I love logging but hate having to throw the laptop in there every time I decide to make a hit.. Where as I always have the HPT cord/black box in the car..

I'll have to learn how to do this.

I use Innovate LM1/LMA3 aux box combos on both my turbo bike and my 71'.. They are always in the car/bike and always ready to log... Just hit the button anytime and it starts.. It logs 44 mins of data. Works great. Way easier to setup and config then HPT and their stupid pid/inputs etc etc and the other crap you have to "create".
