Default Vortech V2 oil leak issues?

Hey Guys,

I did a 450 mile road trip and at the end of the trip, noticed I was down between a 3/4 and 1 quart of motor oil. I have a Vortech V2 engine oil fed blower. I noticed on the bracket that supports the blower, there is some gunk and I suspect it is oil sludge. There is no oil on the ground after the car has been sitting in a parking space overnight.

I think the problem is my Vortech is leaking engine oil. My blower is about 3 years old at most and probably has about 25K miles on it. Oh... I should mention that the engine only has about 70K on it so I can't imagine that I'm burning oil.

My question is: Are these things prone to leaking engine oil or should be looking else where?

Thanks!

1) Check the drain hose
2) Run your hand along the oil feed line see if it's leaking near the fitting at the blower
3) check the fitting that goes down into the blower....should be a little crush washer in there maybe visible if that is leaking you will see a little pool of oil ....remove apply a little sealant and screw back in....make sure not to get any on the holes that spay oil

They don't typically have oil leak issues. But you might even pull the lower hose off the bottom of the headunit to see if oil has been getting inside there. Like if impeller shaft seal was leaking and letting oil into the charge pipe.

I vote for the drain hose. Mine has to be tightened every now and then. If it was leaking a quart in only 450 miles, there ought to be a lot of oil under the car. Let us know what you find as the cause. Rod

Exactly.... 1 quart of oil is a lot to lose externally. There would be a puddle under the car, or a big trail of oil coating the underside of the car with a leak like that. Just think about how big of a mess dumping a quart of oil in the engine bay (or on the ground) would make.

Lots of LS motors are known to burn oil. That's the reason catch cans are so popular. So that is a possibility. I'd also check inside the air filter/impeller area.

Check your Air filter for oil residue.....make sure you're not blowing or sucking oil out the crankcase into the inlet side of the blower

I want to thank all of those who kindly chimed in... I really appreciate it. I took the car last week up to Northern California (from Southern California) for a business trip. I'd way rather drive a blown C5Z for 8 hours than go through the hassle of dealing with airports and rental cars for 4 hours any day!

Given some of the great feedback I got here, I come to realize my initial assessment was probably not right (sorry). I think I have a slow leak. True, I did add a quart of oil when first drove up but I didn't check the oil level when I left and had assumed it was topped off. I do think there is a small leak in the blower. I am fortunate to live close to A&A corvette (they installed it) and will follow up.

Thanks again for the insights provided

Just wanted to follow up on this. The blower was looked at by A&A Corvette and it was determined the blower's shaft seal had gone bad. They replaced with an improved one. Thanks again for all who chimed in and looking forward to my next long drive with confidence
