Default APS vs TTI vs others

Hello my buddy and i had the idea of twin turboing his Z. We're doing some research on what the best kit is. ive emailed some company's to see what they say but i would like to here your opinions. Im looking at APS and TTI. Im also open to any other makers that have good kits. thanks looking forward to your replies.

really depends on what your goals are and how deep your pockets are. If you are doing a mild street car...then most of the kits work well and would give you and your bud a big . That being said....if you are trying to do more...then you should have a bigger plan for: forged motor or not, intake, alky/meth, exhaust, fuel, clutch.....etc .

Each kit has it's positives and deltas and is suited for different purposes and goals.

What are the plans and power goals for this project?

The new double secret Huron kit is supposed to be the bee's knees. But it's not out yet.

So secret that they don't even know when it will be ready.

Lol, stirring the pot guys.

Huron is coming out with a kit that is suppose to be growable from 500-1xxx rwhp. I'd personally wait for that to come out. But if I could redo I would have a front mount S480 with race cover instead of twins.

My friend and i both like to use the best of the best on whatever we do. We plan to go mild for a couple of years then really turn it up. We would probably go with a mean setup from the start so we dont have to change anything when we go big. I guess the question would be what is the best kit for a high hp build? Or would i be able to do a custom setup for around the same price that will work for mild as a few years then be turned way up? This will be mostly a bad*** street car.

Once again, define "high hp build". To one person that may mean 800rwhp and to another it may be 1800rwhp. These things matter in regards to what kit you go with initially.

Well we want to in a couple of years make have as much horsepower as it possibly can have for the street if that helps. Im guessing 1500hp We'd be happy if we can make even more but I don't know if you can and still have it street legal. He is not very concerned about spool up time in the beginning as we will not do much to it at first. He is more worried about doing it right the first time and the setup can handle 1500+ when we decide to go there. Thanks

I'll try and give you some feedback based on my experience with the ttix very high quality kit, packaging is very tight and you will need the upgraded turbos to go much above 1k at the tire which is much more than the c5 drivetrain can handle anyway unless really beefed up.

don't overlook those costs in your build or you will scatter some stuff

the aps manifolds are a work of art, but I don't like the inlets which must be reengineered

I now like the Bam bam style top mounts. the manifolds are much more spectacular, you really KNOW this is a tt car and you can run bigger turbos and the packaging to me is much cleaner

then you have UPP which is working on stuff as is hinson

the aps is pretty much made out of unobtanioum and I don't know if
DKT is still supporting their kits

bottom line, is to talk to owners and see what their experiences have been.

I'm love with my tti but its and expensive kit, and I didn't have to pay the tab. I did have to replace one cracked manifold, but I believe that was a faulty install and someone over torqued the bolt on the #7 end flange which broke off

manifold was very reasonable at 600 and ttix support has been great

I now have a custom set of manifolds that I'd like to try out\

whatever you do, don't skimp on the following

fuel system!! make sure the system is able to keep up with the pressure and flow demands with some headroom to grow.

drivetrain and tires you'll need to beef up both

diapers you'll go though quite a few at first

and remember there are old pilots and bold pilots, but not that many old bold ones be careful

I dial the car ata 600 at the tire and it probably still will turn low 11s

at full boogie on a whif of meth, 9s are in reach on pump gas with the ac on the return road on fresh drag radials

also consider an automatic turbos love them and at full boost why in the world would you ever want to lift off the throttle

What im getting from your post is that TTI is probably the best kit there is right? He plans on keeping it mild for a couple years then doing a all out build and making an already beast even more of a beast. We both like precision turbo and tti is the only kit that supplies them unless we do a custom setup. Could we do a custom setup for around the same cost as the tti and it would be better? Thanks

PTK is long gone; ala the Dodo.

TTIX will never come close to 1500 RWHP, I'll tell you that.

For that power your only options are:

Wrangle up a C5 or C6 APS kit, do some mods to it and use the DKT 67 (or bigger) turbos, assuming DKT is still around, which I'm hearing they're not.

Wait for the Huron kit and hope it's as much the end all-be all kit it's supposed to be.

Fab up a custom kit using 76's, which, IMO, is the right size if you're shooting for 1500+.

Even if you do manage to find an APS kit and modify the hell out of it, 1500 is still a stretch and exhaust backpressure would probably be through the roof. Really need full T4 exhaust side for that power range.

If you do it yourself and don't count labor, sure a custom kit capable of that power level could be built for less than a TTix. But not if you're paying someone to build it. I know exactly what it takes to fit turbos big enough for that power level in these, and trust me these cars weren't meant for adding them in the bay. With a little lube they'll take it, okay maybe a lot, but it's a tight fit

no tix is definitely NOT the best bang for the buck is OK, and it's limited

for going above 1k the ptk style kit is the way to go. more pipes are coming and if you are handy you can fab some up

ttix is very tight on packaging and the inlets are hard to wrangle

you pretty much need to drop the engine or be patient

the top mount stuff you can get to to work on and so I'll vote for that style as "the best"

look up bam bam posts and you'll see what I mean

but consider this, above 1k what are you going to run for a tranny?

4l80e is stupid expensive, and the 4l65 is all in at 1k

so that leaves a power glide (also expensive) or a ZR1 swap for the 6060 box

be realistic about the drive train mods to hold 1500 hp

otherwise, get used to jersey walls ask me how I know.

I now know of and trust my source, but two different APS/DKT kits making 1500+rwhp and another 1444rwhp. But don't disagree that the back pressure is very high. But obviously doable.

Ok so ptk is the way to go for big hp and its not long gone either. Where is their website? I havent been able to find one. Ill worry about all the supporting mods in a couple of years when we go for an all out build. Thanks

Well the DKT style housing is now available from PTE direct in ball bearing only. That hybrid housing is still like a 1.06 a/r t3 and using a 66 or larger turbine wheel will flow a **** ton. I don't see 750 whp a turbo being a problem, but it would probably be on race gas or ethanol.

Only way for PTK would be to buy used. They really aren't around anymore!

What are you going to be doing with the car at 1500RWHP? Have you driven a car with 1K RWHP on the street? It's rather stupid. LOL

Everyone brings up all the good points, because you will need a lot more than a forged motor and a good turbo kit to make those numbers.

Yeah i know you cant really use the power on the street. I know i will have to pretty much upgrade every part on the car for that. Its just gonna be a fun project car.
