I was finally able to get the exhaust updated on the car. It spent some more time this winter at DMC Racing in Halifax MA for the update. Last winter it got a full 8.50 cromoly cage and chute there. I'd bet a good amount of money that its the nicest fitting 8.50 cage in a C5 in the country. I expect the very best from Dennis and the guys, and each time I'm blown away by the quality of the work.
The car was one of the first 4L80e swaps into a C5 so a few things were a bit dated. The main one being the exhaust. From the turbos back it was a 2.5 inch setup. The x-pipe had about 7 (not joking) bungs welded in it over the years all at incorrect angles. When it came time to go around the fab aluminum tranny pan things got tight and who ever built the exhaust chose to scallop the pipe down to almost half thickness in order to clear the pan corners. I'm honestly amazed the car runs what it runs with such a huge restriction. From there the pipes went up and over eventually ending in a 1-off set of mufflers made just for this car by Borla. These mufflers flow a ton, and are insanely quiet. Too quiet for most peoples liking. Like, as quiet if not more quiet than a stock C6. Over time the hangers on the can's got trashed and they were barely hanging on there so that had to be fixed as well.
So...here's what it went in looking like.

Now, time for the good stuff. We went with a full 3 inch stainless setup using all V-bands for ease of removal. The whole thing was built sectional so just pieces I needed to could be removed without disturbing the rest. The car is a Hot Rod Drag Week car so roadside repairs happen. Dennis was able to retain the mufflers and utilize the factory mounting points at the tail of the car. One bolt on the V-band and the cans come right off. Eventually extensions will be made for when the muffles are removed. The whole update was not cheep, but its top notch work, and I don't mind paying for quality.
So, here you go....

Not sure if the car will gain some power or not, but that wasn't really the point anyway. Only time will tell I guess!

that really is beautiful work. I have one suggestion, put a cut out tube and actuator so you can bypass the muffler with the kink c5 design it just seems to be made for it~!~! straight through and still going out the tips

nice stuff~!~!
Not something I'm interesting in doing really. A) I doubt the mufflers are any real restriction of noticeable HP. B) Its pretty funny to have people come up to you in the pits and ask wtf its got in it as its whisper quiet and runs like a raped ape. Car has been 8.90s on its 19psi tune through the old exhaust setup. On 12psi and pump gas it goes dead consistent 9.60's. Both times are slight foot brake or idle off the line with a 1.58 60ft.
The new street tune that's in the car is good until 16 psi, and with the old exhaust setup the diff between the 12 and 16 psi was an extra 100hp at the tire. Not sure what it will do on the 16psi...haven't tried it yet.
Looks great. It's amazing how well 3" exhaust fits on these cars when it is planned and routed properly.
Anymore details on these one-off titanium mufflers made by Borla? What's the back story and any idea on the internal design?
The first owner (I'm #3) bought the car and had it shipped to Lingenfelter. It's basically the sister car to Johns personal TT, the yellow one in the old school motor trend mag/YouTube video. It's got a bunch of stuff that didn't make it to any other LPE car, and has only grown from there with owner #2 and now me. Realistically you could go on for days with the story of this one. It's a pretty special car.
Not sure of the internal design of the mufflers, but they were made specifically for this car with the goals in mind. It's insanely quiet. You'd never know it was anything special. The only give away are the tucked 345s with the LPE mini-tub.
