Did a roll race for the first time, where they setup a track for 1600ft. Had a blast in this close race with a GTR1000 and got some cool footage. Unfortunately on our 2nd race, my 4L60 lost the 3/4 clutch again, and were unable to compete. I was set on 22psi (about 900rwhp) and had to grab a 150 shot to get the win.
Who built the 4l60 or is it stock? I really want to do an auto swap, but I keep seeing even built 4l60's fail. Granted i'm not making anywhere near the power you are.

Built by RPM and rebuilt twice by them. The latest build I did myself. It's not a bad trans at all. With all the good parts I only ever wear out the 3/4 clutch pack. This time I will install a Sonnax input drum that is supposed to solve the problem. RPM offers this in the Level X.

Good to know, I may do the swap with a stock one and let rpm build it when I trash it.
I could imagine 900rwhp + 150 worth of dope on a wot 3-4 shift is the kiss of death.. Even RPM says don't allow 3-4 shifts wot.. I've been too scared to try it..that's the only way I can run over 163 mph though (7300 in 3rd)

I didn't need 4th here, just took 3rd to 7000rpm. I did WOT into OD a couple times last year and it actually did good. I figured if it went out, it would just smoke the OD band. When it went out this time, I was spraying the 2-3 shift.

Awe that sucks man.. It definitely should have held the 2-3, especially since your trans is fresh.. Gotta be something we can do to have more holding power in 3rd. I know the Sonnax drum is supposed to help deflection on the clutch plates but... Still seems inevitable to burn the 3/4 clutches at 1k rwhp..
I'm still on my first build on my level 7 with countless 3-2-3 wot shifts at 850 ish... I'm afraid to put any more power then that thru it. I know I'm on borrowed time.
I'll check your vids out in the am... Cool to see you roll racing GTRs and winning.
I was there in Spokane with Morris in the blue zr1, Josh in the white c7 and V wagon. Morris beat him no problem.
I wouldn't really call it beating him his trans went into limp mode at the line because he was staged to long. And then the only other run we had when the spray hit in second spun the tires on Sunday and had to let out when it almost was in the wall
Chris, bad *** runs!!! It looked like a scene out of a movie when you blew past him on the gun. I have a question, how do you keep your trans from down shifting when you go WOT?
Yeah guys the roll racing is fun, and the auto does well. Maybe try the 1/2 mile someday.
Al it was a 40mph start speed, so I started in 2nd which is above the kickdown to 1st. Then one click into 3rd and it was good for 160mph. One shift for me, but I heard the GTR grab a few gears over there.

yeah spending $5-6K on a "built" 4L60 and still worry about it breaking going down the track that sucks. 4l65E from the c6 is slightly stronger with the 5 pinion planetary just another option if you do an auto swap
