Default 4L60E input shaft ?

I've got the trans at FLT and while its apart I'm debating what to upgrade while its there. They were talking level 7 build. I'm curious at what RWHP level or ET are guys breaking input shafts foot braking their cars ? Obviously they want to upgrade the input shaft to the latest and greatest but is it really worth it ? My regular trans builder says it's rare guys break the input shaft. I've personally never broken an input shaft in my race cars or while driving my buddies cars. All 8 second 1/4 cars...

The torque converter is out and getting loosened. Looking to foot brake the car to 2800-3000 rpm's and leave around 5 or 6lbs of boost. I'd like to 60 foot in the 1.40's.

I broke the stock input shaft in my 4L80E. It was a stock shaft with a trans go trans pack in the trans.Yank PY 3800 converter, 800RWHP turbo gto.Drag radials. It broke when I was burning through 2nd gear and when it shifted into 3ed it dead hooked and went to neutral/busted shaft.I now have a full built RPM 4L80E..I also have a turbo c5 with a LevelX RPM trans!!

Good to know.. Thx Hopefully I can come to a decision by next Monday. Cost and responses in this thread will help aid my decision.

My trans builder said my next mod to the trans should be hardened shafts now that I'm at 850hp. He said wheel hop, vibration and dead hooking if launching hard is what breaks them. Check out sonnax. They make the hardened 300M shafts

Gotcha. I was looking at a 1 piece pressed together billet shaft and drum deal. I believe it's priced around $700... I haven't heard back from the builder since I dropped the trans off

I upgraded to RPM's Level VII from their Level V at their recommendation because of the input shaft. I'm only at 750 WHP now but told them I planned on upping that to 800+ in the very near future. They said I really needed the input shaft upgrade that came with their Level VII build even with only 750 WHP.

Sounds like the general consensus is 800 RWHP. I plan on being at that level after my next tune. I'm only at 10lbs. Thx.

You can get Sonnax's smart input drum with the shaft. That's the best drum on the market. I've been really happy with it.

Lots of looks but at the end of the day only 1 person has actually broken an input shaft. Seems like builders suggest the billet shaft over 800 RWHP. To sum Themis thread up so far.
