Default Crank pinning question

going to double post this from the Tech section since I think this forum would have more experience with crank pinning.

ECS crank pinning kit, drilled the end of the crank, but how tight should the dowel pin sit in the hole I've drilled? The pin slips in to the hole easily and I can remove it with a magnet. I'm assuming this is too loose? Should I try to redrill or just toss some loctite or anaerobic sealant on it and let it be?

Its fine. They are usually a tad tighter, but it will be fine especially if you do two 180 across from each other. Always been able to push in a decent amount and tap the last little bit usually as the outer usually gets to be a little larger because of drill movement and tighter on the inside because of the opposite. GL!

Get bigger pins made, they should be a snug fit, but certainly not loose.

I'd be more worried about how much the dowel pin "wobbles" vs if it slip fits in the hole. if you have a longer pin on hand hand stick it in and see how much you can move it side to side. I have a better feel for it being a machinist, but if it has next to no movement I wouldn't even worry about it, but if it's like throwing a hotdog down a hallway get a bigger pin

You can buy oversized pins, no need to have them made

How does the ECS kit pin - through the front or the side?

Either way I don't think it matters, if the pulley does start to slip on the crank, the pin is there to catch it.

ECS kit is like the A&A kit, drills through the front of the crank.

Can't find any oversized pins in stock at any stores around me and was hoping to get the car running this weekend.

I may just throw some sealant on it and toss it in. I don't want to drill another hole into my crank only to have it turn out the same way because my drill chuck is slightly wobbly or something.

Mine was similar to yours and there was no issues. I had it back apart after 15K miles and everything was fine. Really no reason to pin it twice. Put it together and forget about it.

McMastercarr has them if there's one local to you.

If/when the balancer rotates on the crank it will take up anyslop in the hole lol

I'd say you will be fine - IF there is any pulley movement, it will snug right up.

How loose is it ? How tight a fit is a drill bit ? Can you drill a slightly larger hole ? and then cut the shank off the drill bit and use it as a pin ?

I say put it in and be done, if you want throw some loc-tite on it. A dowel pin only really needs a good fit if it is being used for location or alignment, in this case it is only there to prevent movement you will be fine. Plus once the bolt is on it can't go anywhere.

Could someone please tell me the dimensions of the pin for end pinning.
Thanks

That would depend on the kit, I doubt they are all exactly the same.
