I just wanted to check back in here, still have my C5, and it's still the top dog in my garage, and my favorite!!
Yes, I picked up a 17 black rose Metallic Z06 with the Z07 package, But love the C5, and it beat the C7 pretty good at the half mile event I went to a little while back. C5 went right around 172, the C7 did 162 MPH...
Just curious not to bash you but why would you pic a A8 over a m7? I don't get it personally so just curious.
Who gets the blame when the transmission is in drive and the shift doesn't happen at the perfect time? The auto driver blames the transmission every time. They aren't in control of their own destiny (elapsed time) like the manual drivers. The trans is doing the work and producing the ET that they can't achieve on their own.

I've always owned manual sports cars but I recently tried one of the A8 c7zs. It's a whole new world for autos with paddle shifting, same/more gears than the manual, and a lot of refinement. There's no performance downgrade choosing the the new auto for a change like the old t56/A4 decision. It's putting up the same times or better than the M7 except for heavy duty track usage. I wish Chevy was able to offer a true DCT sequential like the GTR, Porsche, BMW, etc but it'll probably come in time. After 8 manual cars I think this will be my last.
So it's okay to have a computer brake for you, a pump make it easier to steer, but if a computer shifts for you then all of a sudden you aren't a real driver? Strong logic is strong.
In before the "fun factor" and "driver's feel" argument

I didn't realize braking and turning were part of going fast on the drag strip. Those items typically happen after the finish line right?
Oh wait, you are speaking from the dyno side of things. Go ahead and remove your ABS and power-steering to eek out a few more rwhp. It wouldn't matter since your car spends all of its time on the dyno. Strong dyno queen is strong.

lol I've also been told "you should put a carb on that to make more power" at the drag strip in the c5. I already feel retarded enough taking a road course car to the strip.
