Default Stock 4L80 swap

Hi,

All i find here are expensive special build 4L80 from specialists vendors.

I find cheap stock 4L80 based swap on LS1tech (hope i can speak and link here about another forum ?, sorry if not) : https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...l80e-swap.html

But this post is not about "from c5 transaxle trans".

Does it's possible ?

My need :
C5 base
From 4L60
Only strip car not a problem for cut

The need (2007 price) for swap from from 4L60 equiped :
~ 4l80e trans from junyard- $600
~ Rebuild kit- $ 157
~ Converter and crossmember from yank- $1145
~ Lokar dipstick and tube - $80
~ Speartech wiring harness's- $169
~ Trans mount- $14
~ Slip yoke- $97
~ Dust cover/shield - $70
~ Trans cooler- $40
~ OS changed- $free

What are the cheapest need for doing this on auto strip C5 ?

The swap in that post is for a Fbody.

You need to shorten then torque tube because the trans is longer.
Find a way to make the trans mount to the diff and to the torque tube.
Cut the tunnel to make room for the trans (since its larger)

None of that stuff you have prices for has to do with a c5 conversion (other than the trans and a rebuild).

Look at the pics on that site.

Like the second poster stated, you are comparing apples to oranges. This is not a straight forward swap using anything off the shelf that's why the 4L80e cars are so rare...well that and the $25K price of the swap when done right.

That being said...I absolutely love mine and wouldn't change a thing. For what I do with the car its absolutely perfection. IMO a glide setup in a vette makes it no longer a real "street" car. I love the fact that mine can take whatever abuse you want to throw at it, then go cruise at 85mph while only turning 2200rpm.

you know, 25 k seems a bit steep when you consider what's involved.

I went with a RPM build 4l65e but I think around 800 at the tire is probably a realistic limit for that setup even at lvl 10

the 480LE is way beefier, but somehow the cost of the swap seems out of line with the labor involved me thinks.

ran into the same think with old school c4 ZR-1 auto swaps as some custom fab was involved which really drives up the cost

now this will sound goofy, but the OP makes a point,

if you did all the "cutting and surgery" why not mount the tranny up front and find a way to use a stronger rear.

the tranny will end up being bullet proof and you spend a ton on making the IRS stronger.

I hate to say it, but if you want to go fast in a straight line, 25 k buys you a turn key car, not a tranny swap.

I sold my old alchy 80 BB chevy vette (nice!) for 17k and it went 9.20s

My TT c5 still isn't that quick (1.55 vs 1.30 60 ft time, can't plant the power like a back half car can) and realistically will take a ton of $$ to get it there.

consider a build 4L65e it's bolt up and will take you pretty far with the new lvl 10 build. 7k vs 25k.

I wll never spend 25k and expect spend less than 7k for the tranny
and also, i'm in Europe, so every part will cost me A LOT more (transport / custom...) !!!

a front mount of a 4L80 (or th400, as it's only race car) can be an option, but i will be probably a problem for the front / rear weight (as a C5 is stock 50 / 50, and i will probably swap aluminiun LS for iron 6.0L... add some front weight will SC or front turbo(s)... and will be a lot less rear weight removing 4L60 trans :-(

a build 4L60/4L65 can also be an option as i know there is atleast a 8.8s C5 here with 4L6x... and not the X beffer version (some speed car are V, and the 8.8s is 7 or 8) but prefer bye all good part and build the trans here in europe (probably less expensive)

Where exactly did you get your used 4l80? I'm currently building a street/ strip setup with my 03 (shooting for 800whp when all said and done) and I've decided to just buy a decent used 4l80e and throw some stage 3 goodies on it. There are no 4l80 junkyard trannies within 300 miles where I'm at so my buddy told me to order one from here, https://reman-transmission.com/trans...s/?code=4L80-E. Do any of you have any experience with these guys?
